Good day, baseball grinders! Welcome to the weekend! We have the usual split-slate Saturday on tap, and today is again heavily weighted toward the afternoon games. There are 7 early games starting at 4:05 PM ET and 5 late games starting at 7:35 PM ET. I will cover both the early and late slates in today’s article.

We definitely need to keep an eye on the weather after we saw several games get delayed on Friday night. Be sure to keep tabs on any updates by using our MLB weather page to make sure you are up to date before lineups lock.

As for the larger afternoon slate, we have a slate that looks to be heavily weighted toward pitching over bats, but you never know in this sport. It should be another fun day of baseball, especially with the weather warming up for the upcoming start of summer. Let’s dig in and see what this Saturday has to offer!

Saturday Afternoon Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Brown of the Astros

TOP TIER PITCHING

Hunter Brown vs. Guardians
Jacob deGrom vs. Nationals
Logan Webb vs. Braves

We have a strong trio of aces at the top on this Saturday, and Hunter Brown has worked his way up the ladder in 2025 without it even feeling “weird” to include him as an ace at this stage. As usual, let’s start with a look at the 2025 data:

Brown – 1.83 ERA, 2.74 xFIP, 30.7% K, 7.3% BB
deGrom – 2.34 ERA, 3.47 xFIP, 24.4% K, 6.3% BB
Webb – 2.55 ERA, 2.32 xFIP, 27.5% K, 5.1% BB

If we cover up the names and just look at the data, it’s clear that Hunter Brown has been the highest upside pitcher of the top group. He has the best ERA and the highest strikeout rate you will find on today’s slate. His upside is perhaps a little bit lower than usual in a matchup against the Guardians, but Cleveland is striking out a little more this year than they have in years past (though they are still below league average with strikeouts). They aren’t an elite offense, I like the park for pitching, and Brown is a bona fide ace. Before deciding if he is the SP1, we need to discuss the other pitchers first.

I am a little concerned with Jacob deGrom right now. He received a trainer visit in the first inning of his last start against the Cardinals, and that’s never a good sign when it’s a pitcher with his injury history. While he stayed in the game and pitched effectively, we have not seen much ceiling of late. He had just 4 strikeouts in that outing and had 0 the start prior to that. Washington doesn’t have a great offense, but they’ve been average against RHP and have the 6th-lowest strikeout rate in the league against righties as well. I think the risk outweighs the potential reward with deGrom right now.

Logan Webb rounds out the top tier. The only thing that held him back in previous years was his somewhat limited strikeout rate, but even that has spiked in 2025. Webb now has a borderline elite 28% strikeout rate to go along with his usual strong control and ground balls. While the Braves would seem to be a tough matchup on paper, this offense continues to scuffle a bit and ranks just 23rd in team ISO against RHP so far this year. They should improve going forward, and they aren’t the highest strikeout unit.

Frankly, I see all of these as relatively similar matchups, so I am ranking the pitchers almost exclusively based on their form and skill set. With deGrom showing concerning signs right now, I am ranking the group as Brown > Webb > deGrom, though I wouldn’t argue with flipping Brown and Webb if you feel like it.
