Covering The Bases: MLB DFS Picks Today for Saturday 5/10
Long-time grinder, Justin Van Zuiden (aka stlcardinals84), is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate on DraftKings and FanDuel. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his favorite MLB DFS picks.
Welcome to the weekend, everyone! We have the usual split-slate Saturday on tap, but today is heavily weighted toward the evening games. In addition, we actually have a Saturday where the slates line up between FD and DK, with 4 early games starting at 4:05 PM ET and 9 late games starting at 7:10 PM ET.
If you are looking for content on the early slate, we will have you covered with some tags and analysis in our MLB DFS optimizer.
As for the evening slate, we have a slate that looks to be heavily weighted toward the pitching side of the ledger. That’s pretty much the opposite of what we had yesterday. Let’s dive in and see what this fine Saturday has in store!

Saturday Night Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
TOP TIER PITCHING
Garrett Crochet vs. Royals
Cole Ragans vs. Red Sox
Logan Webb vs. Twins
Joe Ryan vs. Giants
This is a really fun night for pitching, and we have a lot to digest in both pitching tiers. As usual, let’s start with a look at the 2025 data for this top quartet:
Crochet – 2.02 ERA, 3.25 xFIP, 28.6% K, 10.2% BB
Ragans – 3.79 ERA, 2.26 xFIP, 38.5% K, 7.4% BB
Webb – 2.61 ERA, 2.38 xFIP, 28.7% K, 6.7% BB
Ryan – 2.93 ERA, 3.44 xFIP, 29.7% K, 3.2% BB
Whew, those are some good numbers. It is also at least somewhat noteworthy that these pitchers are pitching in two games, with Crochet vs. Ragans and Webb vs. Ryan as the head-to-head battles. While this is anecdotal, I do think aces sometimes rise to the occasion when they are facing another ace in the same game. Let’s start with the game in Kansas City. Crochet has the longest track record as a high-strikeout arm, and his overall metrics remain strong this year. However, there are at least a handful of signs for concern. His xFIP is more than a run higher than his 2.02 ERA, and the walks have been more of a problem. He is facing off against a hot Royals team that has now won 7 in a row and 10 of their last 11. On the other side of this game, Ragans has an xFIP that is significantly BETTER than his ERA, and his strikeout rate is basically the highest in baseball so far in 2025. He came back from the injured list earlier this week and immediately struck out 11 batters in 5 innings (though it was against the White Sox). I am considering Crochet and Ragans as relative equals at this point, so it comes down to the matchup.
Red Sox vs. LHP in 2025 – .334 wOBA (7th), .140 ISO (12th), 11.5% walk rate (2nd), 22.4% strikeout rate (21st)
Royals vs. LHP in 2025 – .279 wOBA (23rd), .073 ISO (29th), 7.2% walk rate (24th), 21.3% strikeout rate (24th)
It is clear that Crochet has the better matchup against a Royals team with woeful power numbers and low walks against LHP so far this year. The low walks are great news for Crochet, and I think this is a great spot for him to get back on track. When combining the metrics and opposing offensive stats, I prefer Crochet to Ragans if choosing between them.
Moving on to the next matchup, we have emerging aces in Logan Webb and Joe Ryan. Both have shown nice spikes in their strikeout rates this year, particularly with Webb, a pitcher who had relied on pitching to contact in previous years. Ryan has shown the better command this year, and I would also put these pitchers as relative equals to Crochet/Ragans on the surface. Let’s look at the matchups here as well:
Twins vs. RHP in 2025 – .309 wOBA (21st), .137 ISO (21st), 8.1% walk rate (23rd), 20.5% strikeout rate (20th)
Giants vs. RHP in 2025 – .322 wOBA (13th), .152 ISO (13th), 10.5% walk rate (4th), 21.9% strikeout rate (13th)
Webb is the safer option with the lower ceiling in today’s matchup, while Ryan is more of a risk/reward option. I do not have a strong delineation between them. I would be comfortable using either in a GPP build. I would feel fine with Webb in a cash game setting but would prefer Crochet if choosing among the entire group.
In summary, the dividing lines are thin among these pitchers. I will likely keep all of them in my multi-entry GPP pool. Joe Ryan is the cheapest of this group on both FD and DK, but I also think he carries the most risk. I am intrigued by his ceiling in GPP builds, though, especially if he checks in at lower ownership. I loosely have this tier ranked as Crochet > Ragans > Ryan > Webb, but all of them are perfectly viable.
