Covering the Bases: Saturday, September 9
STLCardinals84, one of the best tournament players in the game, is here to cover the bases for the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cards has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Saturday, Grinders! We have a small five game main slate on tap today, but the prize pools are still much larger than they were for the early slate.
That brings me to an important note. With football getting rolling in earnest this weekend, the sites are starting to cut back on their MLB prize pools on the weekends (and on shorter Thursday slates). We are going to adjust our content as appropriate given the sizes of those prize pools. That means we will eliminate this article on Sundays, and we will cut out early slates with smaller GPP prize pools, as was the case today.
I just wanted to mention that in case some of you come here wondering why there was no article for the early games today. That’s why! We’ll still have tags and blurbs in LineupHQ for the early slate.
In any case, let’s move on and discuss the five fun games that we have tonight in an attempt to uncover some strong MLB DFS picks.
Saturday Night Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
Two Top Arms, One Clear Option
Logan Webb vs. Rockies
Nathan Eovaldi vs. A’s
We have two strong arms at the top of the list tonight on a weak pitching slate. Both have fantastic matchups, as Logan Webb gets a home date against the Rockies, while Nathan Eovaldi faces the MLB-worst A’s.
There’s not much in the 2023 data to separate these two pitchers, either. Webb has a 3.51 ERA, a 3.01 xFIP, a 23% strikeout rate, and a 4% walk rate. Eovaldi has a 2.95 ERA, a 3.84 xFIP, a 23% strikeout rate, and a 7% walk rate. You can see that both pitchers have strong surface numbers. Neither will blow you away with strikeouts, but they are clearly the best arms on the slate in the best matchups.
