Happy Tuesday, Grinders! This will be my last weekday filling in for Cheese as he returns from his son’s wedding. He will also be filling in for me this coming weekend while I am out of town. Thanks for reading along over the past week!

As for tonight, we have a fun-looking 10-game slate that has plenty to love for both pitching and bats. We do need to monitor the weather today, though there are no games that are in imminent danger of being postponed. The biggest risk appears to be in Chicago, where the White Sox/Cubs Windy City rivalry has an early “Orange/Yellow” rating from Roth. I am going to write this article as though every game plays, but make sure to keep an eye on our MLB Weather page that Roth updates throughout the day.

Let’s dig in and see what this Tuesday slate has to offer for MLB DFS picks!

This looks to be an exciting slate for pitching, with options skewed toward some aces at the top of the pricing scale.

FOUR UPSIDE ACES

Luis Gil vs. Twins
Shota Imanaga vs. White Sox
Corbin Burnes vs. Blue Jays
Jack Flaherty vs. Rangers

We have a couple of newcomers and a couple of veterans in the ace tier. As usual, let’s begin with a look at the 2024 data for these hurlers:

Gil – 1.99 ERA, 3.46 xFIP, 32% K, 12% BB
Imanaga – 1.86 ERA, 3.45 xFIP, 26% K, 4% BB
Burnes – 2.35 ERA, 3.20 xFIP, 25% K, 7% BB
Flaherty – 3.46 ERA, 2.03 xFIP, 34% K, 4% BB

The best surface numbers in this group belong to Luis Gil and Shota Imanaga, as both of them are still sporting sub-2.00 ERA marks. Their advanced metrics do suggest some long-term regression, but both are still solid options. Gil is more of a risk/reward play with his occasional command issues and a relatively tough matchup. Imanaga, however, profiles as the top option on this slate. He gets to face a White Sox team that has now lost 11 games in a row and has basically no offensive talent. Imanaga has above-average strikeouts, very strong command, and is a huge home favorite. He’s my SP1 assuming the weather cooperates and allows the game to play. As I mentioned in the introductory section, we do need to keep an eye on that.

The other high-upside option is Jack Flaherty. As a Cardinals fan, it is frustrating to see him dominating again. He always showed flashes of this in St. Louis, but never with any consistency outside of one season. The advanced metrics are absurd for him this season, and I have no qualms about using him even in a tough matchup against the Rangers. He’s my second favorite option after Imanaga and could become the preferred play if weather causes issues in Chicago.
