MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Monday, August 5th
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
SquirrelPatrol: Matt Chapman
headChopper: Elly De La Cruz
ebeimfohr: Ketel Marte
TheLuuch: Elly De La Cruz
Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
SquirrelPatrol: Tyler Glasnow – I don’t view any pitcher on this slate as a must-play, but there is no denying Glasnow. He has a strikeout prop (7.5) and projection a full strikeout higher than any other pitcher on the slate. Glasnow has a 32.8% K%, and the next-highest mark on the slate is Hunter Brown‘s 25.3% mark. You could argue Glasnow is underpriced at just $600 more expensive than Logan Webb on FanDuel and just $600 more than Brown on DraftKings.
headChopper: JP Sears – I just mentioned how I don’t really like this slate for pitching. I can poke holes in rostering all these expensive pitchers. Sears runs much cheaper than the top tier and has a glorious matchup with a Triple-A team tonight. He’s volatile, but he has his spike games. In his last 5 starts, he has 3 games where he struck out 30% or more of the batters he faced. In his last outing, he ditched the sweeper and used his changeup exceedingly more than he typically does, resulting in 7 innings of shutout baseball with 9 strikeouts. Let’s see if that becomes a trend.

ebeimfohr: JP Sears – The White Sox have lost 20 games in a row, and they traded away some of their best bats, which included a couple of their top righties. Sears is priced at least one tier below the top arms, and he’s always been a competent MLB pitcher. Dating back to the start of 2023, he’s had a 20% K rate to both sides of the plate, with a sub .300 xwOBA to lefties and .341 xwOBA to righties. Those are strong enough numbers for me to back a lefty against this woeful White Sox lineup.
TheLuuch: David Festa – He’s a tournament option only. Tyler Glasow is no doubt the guy you want in cash games, and I cannot argue with him for small-field/optimal tourney builds at all. But I like gambling on Festa, who was decent in Triple-A and had a tough draw to begin his MLB tenure against the Diamondbacks, Phillies, and Mets in 3 of his first 4 starts. He doesn’t have a very long leash, but he’s striking out over 30% of righties so far, and the Cubs are projected to start five of them. He’s a dirt cheap $6,100 on DraftKings. I don’t have a ton of faith in him earning a quality start due to pitch count, so I prefer this play on DraftKings.
