What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
stlcardinals84: I will be playing around 10 entries in the larger-field GPP contests. The easiest way to get an edge is to play the motivation angle, especially for pitchers on teams that are locked into playoff spots. For example, the Dodgers cannot move from the #3 seed in the National League and will be playing a Wild Card series next week, so they have no reason to push Tyler Glasnow tonight. I will be underweight on him and be overweight on pitchers like Spencer Strider and a cheap Bubba Chandler instead.
Krayton: I will be playing single-entry and 20-entry contests on both sites. I see no need to play Tyler Glasnow, so I will be locking in Spencer Strider or Logan Gilbert and then look to be overweight on the Athletics offense. Instead of going with a second stack, I will look for 3-4 elite bats that project well, such as Corbin Carroll, Ketel Marte, Spencer Steer, and Elly De La Cruz to get a little different.
TJ Zwarych: I’ll just play one lineup in single-entry contests. While I’ll get to one of Logan Gilbert or Spencer Strider as my SP1, I plan to go with the cheap, low-owned Bubba Chandler as my SP2 on DraftKings. On FD, I’ll just stick with one of Gilbert or Strider. Chandler will make me different enough from the field, so I plan to play Nick Kurtz and some Astros alongside him despite their high projected ownership.
tcsmith031: I’ll focus on one single-entry lineup to deploy in a few different contests. I’m leaning toward eating the Logan Gilbert chalk in a game the Mariners want to win, while I’m less inclined to play a popular Spencer Strider in the midst of an erratic season. Firing up either the Royals or A’s as my primary stack and getting some direct Strider leverage with a Pirates mini-stack looks like an interesting way to build for SE.

About the Author

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
