MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Thursday, July 4

Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?

Alex Sonty: Yordan Alvarez
headChopper: Yordan Alvarez
Dean78904: Jose Ramirez
ebeimfohr: Yordan Alvarez

How do you plan to beat the field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

Alex Sonty: I’m fading Bailey Ober because there isn’t a huge difference between him and Nick Pivetta, Michael King, Max Scherzer, and Chris Bassitt outside of pOWN%. All five of these guys can get a K per inning, and all five can get blown up. I’m more interested in playing Tigers power bats against Ober because he lacks power prevention and isn’t a great strikeout pitcher. I don’t have strong conviction on this slate though, so I’m playing 3 lineups instead of 10 and staying mostly in the lower-dollar stuff.

headChopper: Running 1 lineup in GPPs, I’ll have a chalky SP1 (leaning Bailey Ober) and a guy projecting for lower ownership as my SP2 (several to choose from). I see some good stacks but nothing I want to rock with as a 5-man or 4-man stack, so my lineups (1 DK, 1 FD) will be mostly comprised of a max of 2 hitters from any particular team.

Dean78904: My pitching pool casts a wider net than what is ideal, as I’m open to rolling with Bailey Ober, Nick Pivetta, Cristopher Sanchez, and Jameson Taillon in my one main lineup. And really, Max Scherzer, Michael King, Framber Valdez, and Chris Bassitt aren’t that far behind. That is more than half the SPs throwing baseballs, but that is just the way I’m seeing it – a jumbled mess, as no one is elite enough to separate from the field. It is too early as of this writing, but I am anxious to see ownership projections and will adjust accordingly. I will be over the field on Pivetta and his 26.7% K rate this season vs. the underwhelming Marlins. However, in lineups I’m not rostering Pivetta; I will home-run hunt vs. him and his fly-ball, home-run lean, and begrudgingly click on some Marlins. This will likely lead to an organic game stack, as the Red Sox bats are a big target of mine.

ebeimfohr: I’m definitely looking to get off the beaten path with my bats. The pitching pool is really limited, and while I am a huge proponent of spending down at pitcher (we saw how well it can go last night with Joey Estes), we are severely lacking the quality of options for cheap in either talent or matchup. So sticking to the chalkier options, like Bailey Ober, will lead me in tournaments to work my way down the ownership list of bats and stacks, particularly looking to SimLabs to find those that should be under-owned relative to their win rate.

Who is your top overall pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
