MLB DFS Picks: DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey for Tuesday, May 12
Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in cash games?
CheeseIsGood: Bobby Witt Jr.
headChopper: Nick Kurtz
stevietpfl: Shohei Ohtani
Dean78904: Bobby Witt Jr.
Who is your favorite sneaky stack on the board and why?
CheeseIsGood: Marlins – I think it’s possible that the Rangers are sneaky enough to qualify here, in which case they are my answer. But we’ll add the Marlins as a very cheap offense with upside against Bailey Ober. Ober had a couple of good starts, but they look like clear outliers in a season where 6 of his 8 starts have come with 4 or fewer strikeouts. He has just a 14% K rate to lefties and is allowing a .234 ISO, after his 16.3% K rate and .206 ISO to lefties last season. The long-term numbers say that Kyle Stowers and Jakob Marsee are too cheap here, and we also have basically free bats with at least a little power upside in Owen Caissie and Joe Mack. That is enough to build a stack, even before considering the possibility that there is something real in the hot start for Liam Hicks. I will be using the Marlins for both power hunting and stacking tonight.
headChopper: Twins – I think Eury Perez is a solid real-life pitcher, but their implied team total of 4.5 catches my eye for the Twins here. While Perez has solid numbers, he does have a massive 50%+ fly-ball rate in a park that allows for right-handed power. The big thing that can help Twins mini stacks is that they are not afraid to steal bases, and Perez has been bad at holding baserunners his entire career, but especially this season, as he has already allowed 12 steals against him.
stevietpfl: Rangers – SimLabs has the Rangers projected for 3.1% ownership and one of the lowest-owned stacks on the slate. Zac Gallen is struggling this season. He has a 14.8% strikeout rate with an 18.6% whiff rate and an 8.6% swinging-strike rate. With Gallen’s struggles to miss bats this season, I like the Rangers’ upside in this matchup. On top of that, the Arizona bullpen has one of the lowest strikeout rates in baseball. I like Brandon Nimmo, Corey Seager, Josh Jung, and Evan Carter. Overall, I like the full stack or a mini stack here. I’m hoping the Rangers continue to go overlooked here.
Dean78904: White Sox – I’m getting to the point that if I’m playing 8 or so lineups and Chicago is facing a non-elite RHP, I go out of my way to at least get one White Sox stack. Stephen Kolek throws strikes and gets ground balls, but he doesn’t miss bats, per his 16.6% K rate dating back to 2025. Munetaka Murakami and Colson Montgomery are very dangerous if you can’t get the ball past them. I’m OK with a mini stack, but I’m also good with adding Miguel Vargas. I’d also consider Andrew Benintendi if he makes the lineup, as he has an interesting batting profile with an elite hard-hit rate and pull air%. Another perk is that WeatherEdge is showing a positive hitting environment in Chicago with the wind blowing out.
