What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
CheeseIsGood: I much prefer MME on a slate with this many evenly-matched options. I can sort of get things narrowed down on the pitching side, but I see anywhere from 10-15 offenses that cannot be reasonably separated. I’ll try to get a little over the field on the Yankees and Cubs, but my first 20 lineups will have at least 10 different stacks. I also like cheaper pitching enough, with guys like Zebby Matthews, Ryne Nelson, and Jose Quintana, that I’ll have non-stacked lineups where I can afford all of my favorite individual spend-up bats.
stevietpfl: I’m going to focus on small-field contests tonight. I think ownership will be spread out enough that I can focus on 3–5 teams to stack in single-entry and 20-entry-max contests. The Rays, Cubs, Yankees, and Rangers are my favorite stacks. Matthews is my favorite pitcher. I prefer spending down for pitching and paying up for stacks on this slate.
Dean78904: It is early, so it is hard to pinpoint right now, but if any pitcher or team becomes too chalky (especially for the single-entry contests I focus on), I have no issue getting away from them. The reason is that there is no offense I love, and there aren’t any must-have pitchers for me. As far as pitching, I’m likely to stick with Bryan Woo, Nathan Eovaldi, Zebby Matthews, and Max Fried as my primary pitching pool. They feel a little overpriced (besides Zebby), but the drop-off is pretty real after them. I don’t expect to pay up for the priciest bats, and there are enough cheap sticks to make things work salary-wise. I expect to build 3-3-2 / 4-2-1-1 type of lineups as opposed to traditional stack structures.
Who is your favorite pitcher (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
