Who is your favorite hitter to spend up for in large-field tournaments?

What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play on this slate? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

CheeseIsGood: I prefer single-entry tournaments on these small slates. Ownership gets extremely condensed in smaller-field contests, while in MME, everything gets played enough that even things that should be “sneaky” end up with more ownership than they deserve. My main strategy here is simply not to play the very obvious Chris Sale together with the very obvious Braves stack. I don’t mind still playing a Braves bat or two in Sale lineups, but I don’t want to just load up on all of the chalk. My preferred way to pivot is by not stacking at all and just playing 2-3 bats per team at the most.

headChopper: I prefer small-field tournaments that have limited entries. With only 3 games, it changes everything. Of the 6 starting pitchers, I think 5 of them are at least pretty good. Even Griffin Canning, who is the weakest pitcher on the slate, has had success at times this season, especially against righties. Because of that, I really feel no need to stack. You almost can’t help but stack something with only 3 games, but my intention isn’t to stack – it’s to pick out the best hitting spots I can from individual matchups. Although Chris Sale is the best pitcher on the slate, there are quality arms at all different price ranges. Not to mention, the Padres have been heating up a bit since the All-Star Break, so I think I could play any 2 of these pitchers not named Canning.

stevietpfl: I’m going to play 3-5 lineups in small-field tournaments. With pitching, I want to lock in Chris Sale as my SP1. I’m going to let others get cute with the Sale fade. As far as my SP2, I’m going to take a stand and fade Gavin Williams. I’ll be using Taj Bradley and Ian Seymour. When stacking the Braves with Sale, I will look for options to pair with them who have low projected ownership. I will focus more on 3-man stacks than 5-man stacks. I wouldn’t be shocked if no offense scores more than 5 runs.

Notorious: I prefer small-field and single-entry tournaments. With only 3 games, it’s hard to get contrarian without reaching. In small-field contests, you don’t have to be perfect to win them. I’m going to eat the chalk at pitcher (Chris Sale and Gavin Williams) and get as much exposure to the Braves and Rays as possible when it comes to hitters.
