Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Monday 9/8
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Monday! We kick off the week with an 8-game slate that features plenty to like on both the pitching and hitting sides. The main thing we’ll need to keep an eye on throughout the day is the Dodgers’ pitching situation. It looks most likely that Tyler Glasnow will be on the mound in a fantastic matchup at home against the Rockies. With his salary on DK, he is going to be a very chalky option so long as he is on the mound. But until he is officially confirmed, we’ll need to stay nimble. For now, I’m writing with the assumption that Glasnow is good to go and will update later if needed.

Monday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
We have three high-end aces, and potentially a fourth if you include Glasnow. We will also find a few viable options in different price ranges as well, which I’ll separate into two other tiers according to salary.
TOP TIER PITCHING
- Garrett Crochet at A’s – 30.5% K, 5.9% BB, 2.67 ERA, 2.95 SIERA
- Bryan Woo vs. Cardinals – 25.2% K, 5.1% BB, 3.02 ERA, 3.52 SIERA
- Logan Webb vs. Diamondbacks – 26.3% K, 5.3% BB, 3.17 ERA, 3.09 SIERA
- Shota Imanaga at Braves – 20.4% K, 4.8% BB, 3.15 ERA, 4.42 SIERA
- Tyler Glasnow vs. Rockies – 29% K, 11.5% BB, 3.41 ERA, 3.83 SIERA
Garrett Crochet has had a handful of rocky starts, so we can’t say he’s a sure thing, but he’s one of the few elite pitchers left in the league, and there is no doubting his upside anytime he takes the mound. I think the question here is if you want to spend these few extra dollars for his ceiling potential or settle on the better matchups at home for Bryan Woo and Logan Webb.
The first thing to note is that on FD, these three are all within $300 of each other, so salary is really not a factor. On DK, you save $800 on Woo or $1,000 on Webb, so there is a little more value to fading Crochet. When I look at the matchups, while you can say that matchup doesn’t really matter for Crochet, it’s still a better spot for both Woo and Webb tonight.
It’s all extremely close here, but I give the edge to Bryan Woo. The Cardinals have almost no power, even before accounting for the ballpark. Their active roster has ‘surpassed’ the Pirates to fall to last place in the league in ISO against righties, and they should have four high-strikeout bats in the lineup. Woo has not had quite the same best-case scenario ceiling as Crochet and Webb, but everything about him has been elite at home this season. On DK, Woo is my SP1, while on FD, I’m going to wait and see the later ownership projections. Between these three aces, none deserve to be heavy chalk or to be overlooked, so I’m willing to change things around later if something looks off. My best guess is that it’s relatively close between the three of them, and not enough to make a real difference, in which case, I’ll call Crochet the SP1, but Woo is very close behind. Assuming the ownership is fairly close, I’ll be very evenly spread out between these three.
