Happy Saturday! Cards is off today, so you’re stuck with me for this split slate Saturday. I’m going to take a very quick peek at the early 4-game slate which begins at 3:07 pm ET, and then I’ll be back shortly to look at the main evening slate, which contains 9 games beginning at the usual 7:10pm ET.

Saturday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
We’ve got a very small group of reasonable pitching options, with these four quickly being boiled down to a primary pool of just two:
Logan Webb vs. Tigers – 20.1% K, 6.3% BB, 3.42 ERA, 3.68 SIERA
Matt Waldron at Marlins – 22% K, 6.8% BB, 3.79 ERA, 4.13 SIERA
Spencer Arrighetti at Red Sox – 26.4% K, 11.2% BB, 5.33 ERA, 4.12 SIERA
Yariel Rodriguez vs. A’s – 24.1% K, 12.8% BB, 3.77 ERA, 4.57 SIERA
This slate looks pretty simple and straightforward to me on the pitching side.
Logan Webb is the very clear SP1, and he’s really not all that expensive. He’s not generally a DFS ace, and even in this good strikeout matchup, I don’t expect any huge ceiling game here, but he’s good and steady without much realistic downside.
Yariel Rodriguez continues to be on a limited pitch count, with no more than 83 pitches at any point this season, and he hasn’t topped 76 pitches in his last three outings. His control has gotten a tad better, but it’s still very dicey, and to me this matchup doesn’t help him enough to overcome that. Matt Waldron looks like the more trustable pitcher, and I prefer my pitcher facing Miami rather than facing Oakland. Waldron and Rodriguez have similar per inning upside, with Waldron having a higher pitch count ceiling, better control, and a better matchup. That makes Waldron the SP2, with Rodriguez as an MME pivot.
If you want to chase some risky upside, Spencer Arrighetti has shown the strikeout ability, but it comes and goes (along with his control). This is a considerably tougher matchup than the other three pitchers, leaving him stuck down in 4th place and basically off my board.
If you really want to spread out more than this, you could toss Osvaldo Bido into the pool as a salary saver, but everyone is cheap enough today that there isn’t a lot of need for it.
Personally, even though the pitchers here are not elite, I consider this to be a Don’t Overthink It slate with Logan Webb and Matt Waldron.
