Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Sunday 8/10
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Sunday! Your usual Sunday compatriot partied a little too hard last night, as Cards is known to do on Saturday night! So you’re stuck with me to break down this Sunday slate. We have a slight difference between the sites, with DK starting earlier at 1:05pm ET to add an extra game, while FD starts at 1:35pm ET.
We have a couple sprinkles of Yellow in the MLB weather report, but for now, everything appears good enough to play.

Sunday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
We have two aces priced up above $10,000 on DK, and then things start to spread out with some big price differences between the sites. I’ll sort into three tiers based on the DK pricing:
TOP TIER PITCHING
- Zack Wheeler at Rangers – 33.5% K, 5.1% BB, 2.64 ERA, 2.59 SIERA
- Max Fried vs. Astros – 23.3% K, 6.2% BB, 2.78 ERA, 3.57 SIERA
- Sean Manaea at Brewers – 26.6% K, 4.3% BB, 3.52 ERA, 3.20 SIERA
- Quinn Priester vs. Mets – 19.7% K, 8.1% BB, 3.15 ERA, 3.91 SIERA
Up top, things are close to being very simple with Zack Wheeler as the clear SP1. However, I must note that I say “close to being very simple” because he did have this start pushed back two days due to shoulder stiffness. Everything appears to be clear, and he was in top form in his last start, but this does introduce a little more risk than I’d like to have for the most expensive pitcher on the slate. The problem is that if we fade Wheeler, we’re either overpaying for a weaker SP1 or we’re throwing nonsense darts on DK. Between the salary and the potential shoulder issue, I’m not going to lock button him, but I am assuming that the Phillies letting him pitch today after a clean MRI means that he’s fine and a full go. He’s the best pitcher here by a mile, and matchup really doesn’t matter, so he’s my SP1.
I guess Max Fried is the pivot off of Wheeler, and he has a $700 discount on DK and a $1,200 discount on FD. He always has the high pitch count with the solid control and ground balls, so he should be fine. But I’m not crazy about this salary in an average matchup for a guy who is basically an average strikeout pitcher. I’m just playing Wheeler ahead of him and hoping the shoulder thing is much ado about nothing.
I have said this the last few weeks and I’ll say it again – I love Quinn Priester, and I love that he’s good, and I believe that he’s good. But cut it out with the $9,700 tag on DK and the $9,000 tag on FD. I just can’t pay that for a guy with a 19.7% K rate against the Mets.
Sean Manaea is still just 23 innings into his season, and he’s still yet to reach 90 pitches or 6 innings. The numbers look good, but they have dropped off since his strong first outing. He’s a good pitcher, and we can assume he falls somewhere in the realm of his last 4 seasons, all between 23-36% K ,with better than average control. That’s pretty good and fairly priced on FD at $8,000. Like Priester, I think the DK tag of $9,400 is a little much, but when we start looking cheaper, the options dry up in a hurry. As good as the Brewers have been, this is a very low-power team against lefties, so I guess I’m going to say he’s my SP3 if not considering salary. I am going to be playing him early on FD, but he’s just a consolation prize if I can’t get up to Wheeler on DK.
