Happy Thursday! We’ve got a smaller 6-game main slate starting at 7:10 PM ET. While there are only 6 games, it’s a pretty interesting slate with no shortage of options on both the pitching and hitting sides. Thursday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

This is a tricky pitching slate, where we have several good pitchers, but all of them are in tougher matchups, while the better matchups come from shakier and less-consistent pitchers. The top 6 pitchers are all priced between $7,500 and $9,000 on DK, so I’m going to group them all into one tier.

TOP TIER PITCHING

• Bryan Woo at Dodgers – 24% K, 5.1% BB, 4.37 ERA, 3.63 SIERA
• Nolan McLean vs. Marlins – 28.6% K, 8.7% BB, 3.32 ERA, 3.43 SIERA
• Eury Perez at Mets – 26.6% K, 9.5% BB, 3.56 ERA, 3.86 SIERA
• Sonny Gray at A’s – 21.6% K, 6.5% BB, 2.78 ERA, 3.88 SIERA
• Robbie Ray at Padres – 20.6% K, 11.4% BB, 3.16 ERA, 4.85 SIERA
• Roki Sasaki vs. Mariners – 23.6% K, 9% BB, 4.71 ERA, 4.10 SIERA

Bryan Woo is $9,000 on both sites, which makes him the most-expensive pitcher on DK but just 4th on FD. That makes him slightly more appealing on FD, but it’s also really tough to have much interest in a pitcher against the Dodgers who has been as bad on the road as Woo has been this season. His strikeouts really come and go, and overall, he has a below-average 19.3% K rate away from Seattle this season. He’s nothing more than a deep MME flyer for me.

I would say that Nolan McLean is the best pitcher on this slate when factoring in real-life numbers along with strikeout ability. He’s had a few duds, as almost everyone has, but he’s on a string of 5 straight quality starts, with at least 7 strikeouts in 4 of those 5. Plus, while this is not a good strikeout matchup, none of his recent starts have been against easy opponents. These last 5 quality starts have come against the Dodgers, Phillies, Braves, Red Sox, and Blue Jays, and the Marlins fit somewhere in the middle of that mix. McLean is up at a 29.5% K rate to righties and 28% to lefties, and he’s been stingy with power to both sides of the plate. He looks like the SP1.
