Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS picks

Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.

Happy Thursday! We’ve got a day with games all over the place. This is leading us to split slates on both sites, with a game or two different between each site on each slate. I’ll start with a look at the early games, which starts with a 7-gamer on FD at 1:45 PM ET and a 5-gamer on DK at 3:07 PM ET. After a little more coffee, and hopefully a croissant – if a croissant just magically appears out of nowhere – I’ll be back with a look at the evening slate. That will be a 5-gamer on DK that starts a little early at 6:40 PM ET. The FD main slate starts at the same time but is not including Game 2 of the KC/STL doubleheader.

It looks like we’re probably going to be okay with the MLB weather, so we can watch baseball all day and watch lineups roll in on the MLB starting lineups page. Sounds glorious!

Thursday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Cease of the Padres

We have a strong group of pitchers for a small slate. I’ll use $8,000 on DK and $9,000 on FD as the cutoff for the top tier.

TOP TIER PITCHING

The crazy thing we have to start with is the consistency we’ve seen from Robbie Ray. The words consistency and Robbie Ray have never been able to be used in the same sentence before, but here we are in 2025. The dude has 7 straight quality starts and 0-1 runs allowed in 5 of his last 6 starts. The strikeouts are still there, getting 7-9 Ks in almost every start. More shockingly, the control has been closer to average, and since mid-April, he hasn’t walked more than 3 batters in a game. It’s conceivable that he’s just figured something out, and I’m interested in staying on this train while it’s rolling. The good news here is that even if we apply the Robbie Ray Rule, which would mean he reverts to his old self, this is probably still a slate where we could play him, as he’s not projecting to be popular based on the early numbers. The matchup is not good for strikeouts, but the good Ray can strike out anyone. What I would say is that he looks overpriced in comparison to the other pitchers on this slate, so he’s still not a priority at all, but that should just go into keeping his ownership down. I’m calling him my SP1 in a world of no salary cap.

Both Bryan Woo and Dylan Cease are cheaper than Ray, and on DK, Cease is still at a massive discount.
