Happy Tuesday! I have double-checked and even confirmed this on the interwebs, and it appears that today is in fact July 22nd, 2025. Yes, 2025. I just did another check, and yes indeed, it is still showing as 2025 from most sources. I began to question things when I saw that Rich Hill is starting for the Royals tonight. Yes, Rich Hill. It’s a common enough name that I thought maybe this is a different Rich Hill, but no, it’s still 2025, and this is THE Rich Hill. I don’t care if the dude throws a no-hitter or allows 17 runs in 2 innings; he is my hero. He last started in 2023, when he was 43 years old. In 2024, he managed to end up getting 4 innings with Boston but was basically just passed around on waivers and unable to even start in the minors. We all assumed he was retiring, right? Nope! He did what he had to do, making 11 minor league starts to get another shot as a major league starter at age 45. This is glorious. I’m absolutely playing bats against him, but man do I hope he pulls this off. Go get ‘em, Rich!

OK, in other news, we have a 10-game slate with a pretty good mix of high-end pitching and offense that is again highlighted by a Coors Field game and plenty of high-upside teams with power in other matchups.

We have a little MLB weather to keep an eye on in the CWS/TB game, but otherwise it should be good to go.

Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Gilbert of the Mariners

We have six good pitchers priced between $8,900-$10,300 on DK and between $9,700-$11,000 on FD. There’s a pretty steep drop-off in both skill sets and salaries, so it makes this easy to sort into tiers.

TOP-TIER PITCHING

Jacob Misiorowski has shown enough in his first 5 starts to say that he has slate-winning upside. Personally, I don’t believe that he’s going to be a 33.7% K-rate pitcher, but he’s definitely a guy with a ton of talent. We can also see just from a quick glance at the numbers that his control is a big question mark, just as it was in the minors. Simply put, this kid is going to have ups and downs, but the ups are going to be quite good. I would not argue with anyone who has him as their SP1 on this slate. I’m not quite there yet on a slate with this many good, more established pitchers, but of course Misiorowski is in my pool. Let’s look at these other options and then figure out where to slot him.

The 2025 numbers say that Logan Gilbert is the best pitcher on this slate, but while he’s clearly great, he’s really not a DFS superstar. For as silly good as his K-BB% is, he doesn’t have a single start of 30+ DK points all season. He’s more about the consistency and knowing you’re going to get something useful. In this lower strikeout matchup, I expect him to be good, but as always, probably not so good that you can’t win without him. The good news here is that the sites have priced in his DFS output ahead of his elite skill set. At just $9,200 on DK and $9,700 on FD, he’s tentatively my SP1.

Jacob deGrom is in that Gilbert category of clearly a great pitcher but not really a DFS superstar anymore. The main thing he still has going for him is incredible efficiency, which allows him to pitch deep into games even when he’s only getting 90 pitches. The matchup with the A’s doesn’t add much upside, and I would just expect more of the same here. The same is 6-7 innings, maybe no runs allowed, maybe 2-3, and something like a strikeout per inning. At $9,800 on DK, I like him, and the salary looks right. On FD, I think he’s overpriced at $11,000, and I won’t use him outside of deep MME there.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto looks to be more of the same. After his first few big starts, he has settled into that same range as Gilbert and deGrom, though with a bit less consistency. All of these matchups are pretty close and none give these pitchers a huge boost or downgrade. It’s all extremely close, but I prefer both Gilbert and deGrom ahead of Yamamoto.
