Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks for Tuesday, July 9th
CheeseIsGood, a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate. Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Cheese has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks.
Happy Tuesday! We’ve got a big 11-game slate tonight, but there are a couple of games that I’m crossing off the initial list due to weather concerns. Roth has the KC/STL game as Red/Orange, with an Orange/Red for MIN/CWS. If something changes later in the day, I’ll add those back in, but for now, I’m looking at this as a 9-game slate without those 2 games.
Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
Monday’s loss is Tuesday’s gain, as Chris Sale is back in our lives tonight to top a decent looking pitching slate. I’ll break things up into three tiers using DK pricing as a guide.
TOP TIER PITCHING
Chris Sale at Diamondbacks – 32.7% K, 4.9% BB, 2.71 ERA, 2.56 SIERA
Ronel Blanco vs. Marlins – 23.1% K, 10.2% BB, 2.53 ERA, 4.30 SIERA
Logan Gilbert at Padres – 24% K, 5.3% BB, 2.91 ERA, 3.59 SIERA
Max Scherzer at Angels – 17.7% K, 4.8% BB, 2.70 ERA, 4.75 SIERA
Zac Gallen vs. Braves – 26.2% K, 7% BB, 3.06 ERA, 3.49 SIERA
Nick Lodolo vs. Rockies – 25.1% K, 6.5% BB, 2.96 ERA, 3.55 SIERA
Chris Sale is not quite as far ahead of the pack as he was yesterday, but he’s still far and away the best pitcher here. I can make more of a case to fade him on FD with the extreme salary, but even there, he’s a priority for me as the clear SP1. On DK, he is a high-priority play in primary lineups. The guy is just better and more consistent than anyone else here, and I don’t see a reason to overthink it.
With salary factored in, I am completely out on Ronel Blanco and Logan Gilbert. Blanco has a great matchup, and he may get another one of his magical starts, but this is just nowhere near a $10,000 skill set, and there is no world in which I’m playing him ahead of Sale. Gilbert is better than Blanco, and this is just a salary vs. matchup situation. He’s not a big strikeout pitcher, and he has a low-strikeout matchup at a high salary.
In my view, the next-best pitcher on this slate after Sale is…
