Happy Tuesday! Tonight, we have an 11-game slate starting at 7:10 PM ET. At first glance, I see a wildly obvious chalk build, at least on DK. We may have to worry about ownership with two pitchers and the Giants bats in Coors Field, but after that, we have the usual huge tangle without a lot of clarity. I’ll do my best to sort through and find something to like with the leftovers, but sometimes chalk is chalk for a reason.

It appears to be a quiet day on the MLB weather front, so we should just be able to wait to see those MLB starting lineups roll in and get to building!

Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Fried of the Yankees

I’ve got somewhat small pools to start with for such a big slate. I see just 4 pitchers above $8,000 on DK that I am going to consider, and then while I’m going to list 9 names in the cheaper pool, I will be narrowing that down as well.

TOP TIER PITCHING

This is an interesting top 4 that doesn’t have a clear correct answer at first glance. The best real-life pitcher, Max Fried, has a high salary and an average strikeout matchup with an average strikeout rate. The highest-strikeout pitcher this season, MacKenzie Gore, is $10,000 on both sites with a low-strikeout matchup. The pitcher who is most underpriced for his talent, Dylan Cease, is facing the Dodgers. And the one guy here with a good matchup, Lance McCullers, is a complete wild card, with only 6 starts this season that have been all over the map.

The first thing I’m going to say is that Max Fried is the one guy I have confidence in, and if salary cap didn’t exist, he’d be my SP1. But then I’d also say it doesn’t appear to be a likely spot for a ceiling game, and his usual performances are more about high floor than high ceiling. For $10,500 on DK, I’m not crazy about just playing for safety. So for now, while he’s certainly in my pool, he does not look like a priority at this salary.

MacKenzie Gore continues to rack up the strikeouts, and matchup really hasn’t mattered. He has 7+ strikeouts in 11 of his 13 starts this season, and he hasn’t had a single disaster start yet. When I look at the righties he has to face in the Mets lineup, it’s basically Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor, and then it’s a bunch of very easy outs at the bottom of the lineup. At this point, I’m just trusting what we’ve seen from him through 75 elite innings this season, and I’m also guessing he’s going to be pretty low owned at this salary. Like with Fried, this isn’t the matchup where a ceiling game is likely, but I trust his strikeouts in any matchup, so I’m playing him.

Early projections have Dylan Cease and Lance McCullers ahead of Fried and Gore, and with the sizeable discounts on Cease and McCullers, I’m guessing those two are much more popular than the spend-up lefties. I totally get it, but if the projected ownership holds, I’m intrigued by spending up to be different.
