Happy Tuesday! We have an unusual start time for a Tuesday, with a 9-game slate that begins at 7:35 PM ET. Other than the Giants in Coors Field, this slate looks pretty wide open on both the pitching and hitting sides. I can see a lot of different ways to build lineups with almost any range of pitchers. I’ll try and pick out some favorites and narrow down the ways to build, but if you’re fading the Giants, I’m not sure there’s any wrong answer.

We have one major MLB weather concern with CWS/MIN starting the day at Orange. I like this game a lot for bats, so we’ll need a later check to make sure things are looking OK there. A delay won’t bother me at all, but if we don’t get rid of that PPD risk, then I wouldn’t want individual bats in that game.

Tuesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

Woo of the Mariners

This pitching slate has a clear dividing line based on DK salaries, with 5 aces priced above $9,000, and then the rest of the slate priced at $8,000 and below. While that kind of gives a clear edge to that top group, none of these guys are elite strikeout pitchers, and they are mostly in tougher matchups and/or tougher ballparks.

TOP TIER PITCHING

Bryan Woo is great and consistent. He almost always sits around 6-7 innings and 6-9 strikeouts, very rarely getting shelled, and very rarely posting an extreme ceiling game. The Rays are the type of matchup where I’d expect more of the same. They aren’t bad; they aren’t great. My initial thought here is that Woo is the top pitcher on the slate if not accounting for salary. However, $10,500 on DK and $10,600 on FD are a bit on the high side, but not an obscene asking price either. I just need to wait and see what else we find before deciding what to do with him.

Framber Valdez got back to his real-life brilliance in his last start, but that was also against the Rockies. It had been a long time since we’d seen a good start prior to that, and we now have to go back to July to find a game with more than 6 strikeouts. While the Yankees are a slightly better matchup for a LHP like Valdez, there is still a ton of power risk here. They do come with 4-5 high-strikeout bats as well, but for me, he’s just too far behind Woo to get into the primary pool here.

It’s kind of the same thing with Max Fried on the other side. He’s very similar to Woo overall, but he is likely to face 8 righties, and he is a 20.4% K-rate pitcher to righties. He can absolutely still get another quality start with his control and ground balls, but like Valdez, I’m just not crazy about spending this much salary for a low-strikeout ace in this matchup.

Shota Imanaga gets his consistency and quality starts in a different way from Valdez and Fried, but the ending point is about the same. He is entirely dependent on HR/FB and gets a huge bump anytime he has pitcher-friendly weather like he does tonight at Wrigley Field. The Braves lineup has more strikeouts against lefties than any of the first three aces, and while I prefer Woo, I am playing Imanaga ahead of both Valdez and Fried. He has a $1,000 discount from Woo on both sites, and for me, he’s close enough that I’m willing to go with him as my SP1.

Now we get to the tricky one with Logan Webb at Coors Field.

The high-strikeout, right-handed heavy Rockies are clearly the best matchup for any of these top-tier pitchers, and I’m not sure Coors Field is enough to change that.
