Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Wednesday 4/9

Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Wednesday! As usual, we have a split-slate day with games all over the place. I’ll start with a look at the early 8-game slate on DK that starts at 1:10 PM ET. Then we’ll dive into the 5-game evening slate, which is the same for both sites, that starts at 6:45 PM ET.
On this early slate, the TEX/CHC game looks very dicey with an Orange rating on the MLB weather page. I’ll list it in the rankings, but at this point, I’m not planning on using anything from that game in my lineups.

Wednesday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings

I see a clear top 5 (Five Guys!) for this early slate and then a sizeable gap to everyone else. You could reasonably put these top 5 in any order you want, and I wouldn’t argue with you.
TOP TIER = FIVE GUYS FOR THE LUNCHTIME SLATE!!
- Jack Flaherty vs. Yankees – 29.7% K, 6.1% BB, 3.12 ERA, 3.12 SIERA
- Shota Imanaga vs. Rangers – 24.1% K, 4.5% BB, 2.72 ERA, 3.63 SIERA
- Hunter Brown at Mariners – 25.6% K, 8.3% BB, 3.46 ERA, 3.65 SIERA
- Max Fried at Tigers – 23% K, 7.8% BB, 3.22 ERA, 3.62 SIERA
- Tylor Megill vs. Marlins – 26.8% K, 9.5% BB, 3.67 ERA, 3.81 SIERA
Jack Flaherty is the standout skill set on this slate, and while he has a risky matchup, he’s still the highest-upside pitcher. It’s quite interesting to open the slate and find him $1,500 cheaper than Hunter Brown. This makes for an interesting conundrum, and I feel much safer with the matchup for Brown, as well as for Max Fried and Tylor Megill. However, like I just said, the best-case-scenario upside for Flaherty is the highest on this slate. I don’t even expect him to be popular, and if projected ownership agrees, I’m going to be going heavy on Flaherty in top-heavy, large-field tournaments. I don’t think we need to risk this in smaller fields, and certainly not in cash games, but I’m very intrigued here for tournaments.
I’m all aboard the Hunter Brown train after he proved himself to be in top form last week with an 8:0 K:BB ratio in 6 innings. I’d be interested in most any version of Brown against this Mariners lineup, but if we are getting the Brown from the second half of last season, then this is my SP1 today. The salary should keep his ownership down to the same realm as the next couple pitchers, so I don’t think we need to fade based on ownership. It’s really going to come down to salary, and while I like the next couple cheaper options basically the same, if I don’t need the money, I’m going with Brown.
Along with Brown, I’m guessing that a combination of Max Fried and Tylor Megill is going to be very popular.
