Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Wednesday 7/23
Whether you are looking for the top pitchers or the best stacks, Dave Potts (aka CheeseIsGood) has you covered with an extensive deep dive into his MLB DFS picks. Cheese, one of the preeminent baseball minds in all of fantasy sports and a winner of a $1,000,000 1st-place prize on both DraftKings and FanDuel, is here to give you his musings on the upcoming MLB DFS slate.
Happy Wednesday! We have a split slate kind of day, with both sites running an early slate at 12:05 PM ET (5 games on FD, 6 games on DK) and then a 5-game evening slate that starts a tad earlier than usual at 6:40 PM ET.
I’ll take a look at both of these slates, and we’ll also have Expert tags and analysis in our MLB DFS optimizer, LineupHQ, for both sets of games.

Wednesday Early Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on FanDuel & DraftKings
This early slate has some very good options at the top of both the pitching and hitting sides. We start with a clear top two pitchers who both have immense strikeout ceilings.
TOP TIER DUO
- Spencer Strider vs. Giants – 29.6% K, 9.7% BB, 3.59 ERA, 3.46 SIERA
- Dylan Cease at Marlins – 30% K, 8.4% BB, 4.64 ERA, 3.28 SIERA
Spencer Strider appears to be back. He’s still not the clear best pitcher in the world that he was pre-injury, but we’ve seen 8+ strikeouts in 5 of his last 7 starts, and I see no reason that shouldn’t continue. I won’t call him a must-play until the control improves, but I’m fully on board with him at $10,000 on DK and $10,400 on FD.
The question is not whether Strider is a good play, it’s whether we should play him or Dylan Cease if we can only afford one. The easy answer is to play them both, but when you see how many batters there are to spend up for, it gets tough to do.
Cease has been very up-and-down, and the ERA remains scary, but like Strider, the strikeouts are there more often than not, with the same 8+ Ks in 5 of his last 7 starts that we have seen from Strider. Miami is a good place to pitch, but the matchup is nothing great for strikeouts. With both Strider and Cease, if they are at the top of their game, it doesn’t matter who they are facing, and these matchups are close enough that it’s not a deciding factor.
My thought here is that there could still be more ceiling for Strider as he continues to round into form, so I’m going with Strider ahead of Cease on DK. However, with a $1,000 price gap on FD, I’d gladly settle on Cease if that salary is needed.
