Million Dollar Musings: MLB DFS Picks Today for Wednesday 9/16

Happy Wednesday! We have a sizeable difference between the sites today, with DK running a 7-game slate at the usual 7:10 PM ET start time, while FD adds an additional 4 games with an earlier 6:40 PM ET start. Those 4 games shift the slate in a massive way, as we add three elite aces to the FD slate, while DK is left with a very weak pitching slate that makes every offense playable.

Wednesday Pitching: MLB DFS Picks on DraftKings and FanDuel

It’s about as different as it can get between the sites tonight, with the three clear best pitchers and maybe even the best four pitchers only available on the FD slate. I don’t know how we’re going to choose only one of these FD aces, and I really don’t know how we’re going to choose two of these jokers on DK, but let’s see what we find:

THE FD ACES

• Blake Snell at Reds (FD) – 33.1% K, 10.4% BB, 1.91 ERA, 3.22 SIERA
• Zack Wheeler at Nationals (FD) – 30% K, 7.8% BB, 3.14 ERA, 3.24 SIERA
• Logan Henderson at Pirates (FD) – 30.2% K, 4.6% BB, 2.34 ERA, 3.05 SIERA
• Jared Jones vs. Brewers (FD) – 28% K, 8.4% BB, 4.10 ERA, 3.57 SIERA

Blake Snell, Zack Wheeler, and Logan Henderson are far and away the best pitchers on this FD slate, and I would argue that Jared Jones is probably fourth. There might be some lineups where you can’t afford one of these aces, but for a starting point, the goal is to get one in every lineup.

It’s now been 6 starts since Blake Snell has come off the IL, and he’s been great in all 6 of them, allowing a total of just 4 runs over the 6 starts with 46 strikeouts in 34 innings. The control is as borderline as ever, but he still hasn’t gone over 3 walks in a start, and at that level, he’s totally fine. In addition to just the great all-around pitching, he has also allowed no hard contact at all, so even if there are a couple more walks, it would take an outlier, or a change in skills, for things to go bad on him. The Reds have patience and power, so maybe this is the spot we see the downside from Snell, but at this point, I’m just buying into how great he’s looked. He’s my SP1.

Zack Wheeler is back to his normal elite self after a few bad starts in August, with 3 straight 1-run outings and his usual long leash. For the good version of Wheeler, the matchup is barely relevant, and the matchup is close to average anyway. The Nationals have enough lefties for me to keep Wheeler behind Snell on my board, but he’s the SP2.
