MLB DFS Top Stacks: Monday, April 15th

MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play. In this article, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections that are available in our MLB Lineup Optimizer, LineupHQ. However, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.

We have a 9-game MLB main slate for Monday that gets started at 7:07 PM ET. Tyler Glasnow headlines the pitching pool after a 14-strikeout performance against the Twins in his last start. The slate also features several elite offenses that have matchups against some very inexperienced starting pitchers.

Let’s break down how I am prioritizing my MLB DFS stacks for this Monday slate.

Dodgers vs. Mitchell Parker

The Dodgers get a matchup against Mitchell Parker, who is making his MLB debut. Parker is the Nationals’ 21st-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. He did flash some strikeout ability in the minors, but he also struggled with control and posted double-digit walk rates in each of the last 2 seasons. Additionally, Parker has maintained a fly-ball profile at every stop of the minors. He did a decent job of limiting home runs until he reached the upper levels, but he did allow 3 HRs in just 10.1 Triple-A innings last season. We are starting to see a troubling profile for a pitcher making his MLB debut against an elite offense. He is probably going to walk a few too many hitters, and he is going to give up contact in the air.

The Dodgers are, of course, loaded with power and patience. Their .175 ISO and 10.2% walk rate both rank 5th in MLB to begin the 2024 season. The top six hitters in the projected lineup all own a .199 ISO or better vs. LHP since the beginning of last season.

Mookie Betts leads the way at the top of the lineup with a .335 ISO in that time. The three projected lefties do not offer any breaks for Parker, as Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Max Muncy all have posted at least a .224 ISO against LHP. Will Smith (.199 ISO) and Teoscar Hernandez (.242 ISO) compose a formidable middle of the order behind the elite top three.

There are also three intriguing salary savers at the bottom of the order. Kike Hernandez and Miguel Rojas do not offer much in the way of power, but both have elite strikeout rates against LHP since the start of last season. Chris Taylor is the value play with the most upside, as he posted a .245 ISO in that time, but also a troubling 38.5% strikeout rate.
