MLB DFS Top Stacks: Monday, April 29th
MLB DFS is complex. Most articles on MLB DFS picks are about the individual players most likely to succeed on any given day, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play. In this article, we will look at the MLB DFS process over the MLB DFS picks. And we’re looking at teams over individual players, using the features of the RotoGrinders Top Stacks tool. We’ll still look at the player projections that are available in our MLB Lineup Optimizer, LineupHQ. However, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.
Both sites are going with a 9-game main slate for Monday, leaving off the three games starting prior to 7 PM ET. Only one team (the Dodgers) has an implied total above 5 runs, and they will certainly be popular…but maybe not popular enough.
Let’s dive in and discuss the top offenses of the slate.
MLB DFS Picks: Top Stacks for Monday, April 29th
Chalk Stack – Dodgers at Tommy Henry
The Dodgers are in a tier of their own on Monday, as they have been the best offense in baseball and get a matchup against a below-average lefty. They rank 1st in baseball with a 124 wRC+ and 3rd with a .168 ISO.
Tommy Henry gets the difficult assignment of trying to slow down the Dodgers elite offense. He has had a rough start to the 2024 season, with a 5.55 ERA and 10.4% barrels allowed. His strikeout rate is also below average at 21.4%.
Mookie Betts has been the best hitter in baseball this season, as his 216 wRC+ and .490 wOBA both lead the league. New addition Shohei Ohtani ranks top 6 in both of those categories as well.
Freddie Freeman is off to a slow start against LHP, but he posted a .274 ISO against southpaws in 2023 and has handled them well throughout his career.
Catcher Will Smith has been the Dodgers hottest hitter of late, posting back-to-back 4-hit performances last week and 9 hits in his last 3 games.
Teoscar Hernandez rounds out an elite top 5 in the Dodgers lineup, and he has been outstanding against LHP throughout his career.
Max Muncy has been sitting more frequently against LHP to begin the season, but if he is in the lineup, then you should have no reservations about rostering him. He owns a .221 ISO against LHP since the beginning of last season.
Rookie Andy Pages is off to an excellent start in his debut season, with a .233 ISO in his first 46 plate appearances.
The Dodgers are expected to be the most popular offense, but their projected ownership is still checking in below 15% on both sites. That is far too low according to our Top Stacks tool, as their Opto% is doubling that, at around 30% on both sites.
