MLB DFS Top Stacks: Wednesday, September 18th
MLB DFS is complex. Most articles are about the individual players most likely to succeed, but the MLB DFS picks most likely to succeed aren’t always the MLB DFS picks we should be most likely to play. With some help from our Top Stacks tool, we will aim to look more at the process instead of just the picks and the teams instead of just the players. We’ll still analyze the MLB player projections that are available in our MLB optimizer, LineupHQ. However, we’ll be more focused on collective ownership, optimal scores, and matchups of full stacks within the context of game selection and leverage.
It’s a massive Wednesday main slate, so we won’t have to worry too much about ownership, and there are plenty of fairly-priced pitching options to choose from. In the wise words of BlenderHD, “Play whoever you want!”
All stats cited are since the start of the 2024 season unless otherwise noted.

Dodgers at Ryan Weathers
Weathers is making his first MLB start in a couple of months after being sidelined with a finger injury. He was holding his own in the bigs before that, with a 3.55 ERA and a 4.07 xERA, so we can expect some negative regression regardless. However, it’s worth noting that he was just shoving during his rehab assignment.
That being said, we have the Dodgers, who are on the road and guaranteed a 9th-inning at-bat. They’ve also been great vs. LHP, ranking 5th in wRC+ and 3rd in ISO while striking out just 20% of the time against southpaws since Aug. 1.
Some of these Dodgers righties have posted monster numbers vs. southpaws this season:
- Will Smith: .250 ISO and .354 wOBA, with a monster 45% fly-ball rate
- Teoscar Hernandez: .283 ISO, .408 wOBA, 18% barrel rate
- Tommy Edman: Just 32 PAs, .433 ISO, .543 wOBA
Of course, you then have righty star Mookie Betts and a bunch of lefties (Shohei Ohtani, Max Muncy, Freddie Freeman) who are typically completely matchup-proof. I’m not buying Weathers’ hot start to the season a few months ago, and it’s worth playing some Dodgers in his first pro start in a few months.
The Dodgers are currently checking in at the highest pOWN% and Opto% according to our Top Stacks Tool. This is a huge slate, so I’m much less worried about projected ownership. There are also a ton of appealing arms to choose from between $7,600 and $9,100 or so on DraftKings, so I think you can find your starting pitchers and comfortably build any kind of Dodgers or expensive stack that you like.
