MLB DFS Picks: Top Stacks for Tuesday, July 1st

Opto% Stack

LA Dodgers vs. Shane Smith

The Los Angeles Dodgers present an outstanding MLB DFS stack opportunity today against Shane Smith, highlighted by the top optimal stack rate and stack rating in projections. With an implied run total of 5.72 runs, the Dodgers are primed for a strong offensive performance.

Smith’s recent struggles, as evidenced by his last couple of starts, suggest this matchup is not conducive to a rebound. While Smith has shown competence against righties, prompting caution in spending on Mookie Betts, Will Smith, and Teoscar Hernandez, his effectiveness against lefties is suspect. His lower strikeouts and ground-ball rates against lefties, despite not allowing barrels, indicate potential vulnerability.

This positions hitters like Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Max Muncy as key plays, capitalizing on Smith’s weaknesses. While caution in full stacking due to salary considerations is advised, integrating select power hitters like Ohtani and Muncy can still yield significant value.

Value% Stack

Colorado Rockies vs. Colton Gordon

The Colorado Rockies offer a notable MLB DFS stack opportunity against Colton Gordon, backed by the 4th-best optimal stack rate and stack rating, coupled with the 2nd-best Value%. With an implied run total of 4.96 runs, they show some run-scoring potential.

Gordon’s elite control is counterbalanced by his susceptibility to right-handed power hitters, making Rockies righties particularly appealing for DFS lineups. While fully stacking may not be optimal due to reliance on favorable BABIP outcomes, particularly in Coors Field, the Rockies still hold individual appeal. The absence of Hunter Goodman does affect the lineup depth, yet Jordan Beck remains a prime option for power hunting, capable of taking advantage of Gordon’s vulnerabilities.

Supplementing Beck with players like Brenton Doyle and Michael Toglia in MME configurations can provide balanced exposure.
