MLB DFS Picks: Top Stacks for Wednesday, July 2nd

Opto% Stack

Houston Astros at Colorado Rockies (Austin Gomber)

The Astros are positioned as a top stack against Gomber, as they are showcasing the best Opto%, the best stack rating, and the 3rd-best Value%. With an implied run total of 6.6 runs, they hold significant appeal, particularly against a left-handed, fly-ball pitcher like Gomber.

Unlike their struggles against RHP, the Astros have shown more flashes of power against LHP, drastically altering their DFS potential. Cam Smith emerges as a standout option, with an impressive 24% barrel rate and .366 ISO against LHP this season. Supporting him are bats like Isaac Paredes, Christian Walker, Victor Caratini, and Yainer Diaz, who contribute additional strength to the overall lineup.

Given the enhanced matchup and elite hitters park, it is worth noting that high ownership is expected. While being significantly under the field remains a strategic consideration for game theory reasons, the Astros’ enhanced capabilities against LHP cannot be overstated. This balance of power and potential makes them a formidable option, and they can be used as a full stack or as individual one-offs.

Value% Stack

Los Angeles Angels at Atlanta Braves (Didier Fuentes)

The Angels stand out as a compelling stack against Fuentes, supported by the 5th-best Opto%, 3rd-best stack rating, and 2nd-best Value% in our projections. With an implied run total of 4.58 runs, the Angels present a potent offensive opportunity.

Fuentes, while likely to improve beyond his initial 2 starts, currently profiles as a fly-ball pitcher who lacks significant swing-and-miss ability – an exploitable scenario against the power-hitting Angels lineup. This dynamic favors hunting for power throughout their lineup, and the Angels have plenty of that.

Leading the charge, Mike Trout and Taylor Ward offer substantial upside, as they are teed up to capitalize on Fuentes’ current form. Supplementing those two are players like Zach Neto, Logan O’Hoppe, and Jo Adell, as they enhance the stack by providing even more power potential (with the latter two also at very affordable salaries).
