Happy Monday! Major League Baseball has 7 games on tap for this evening, beginning with the Yankees against the Rays at 6:40 p.m. ET.
The extreme heat appears to finally be behind us, with the forecast temperatures dropping back into the 80s around the league tonight. As always, it’s important to keep an eye on the MLB weather report before committing to any wagers.
Below, you can find three of my favorite picks for Monday, July 6th!
Best MLB Player Props for Monday, July 6th
Here are my top player prop bets for today, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:40 PM ET on Monday, July 6th:
- Cam Schlittler Over/Under 6.5 Strikeouts
- Freddy Peralta Over/Under 15.5 Outs Recorded
- Eric Lauer Over/Under 4.5 Strikeouts
Cam Schlittler UNDER 6.5 Strikeouts (-186, Novig)
In his first 11 turns through the rotation, Schlittler had a 14.5% swinging-strike rate. In his last 7 starts, however, Schlittler has posted only a 10.2% swinging-strike rate. He’s allowing significantly more contact in the zone and more quality contact too.
During the last 14 days, Tampa Bay has the 2nd-lowest strikeout rate in the league against RHP. They lead the league in contact% on swings at pitches out of the zone during that span, meaning that they are fouling off pitches and putting balls in play at a higher rate than many other clubs. The Rays are also 2nd in baseball in contact% on swings at pitches in the zone during that stretch.
It’s difficult to see 7 strikeouts on the board for Schlittler tonight.
Freddy Peralta OVER 15.5 Outs Recorded (-125, Novig)
Peralta has been one of the unluckiest pitchers in baseball in recent weeks. In his last 5 starts, he has struggled to an 8.49 ERA, but his 3.43 xERA looks much better during that span. He’s done a good job limiting quality contact, evident from a 2.4% barrel rate and 35.3% hard-hit rate allowed. The biggest problem for Peralta has been falling behind in counts, but it stands to reason that we could see him be more aggressive in the zone tonight, facing an Atlanta offense that ranks only 22nd in wRC+ against RHP across the last 2 weeks. This is good value on him to get an opportunity to come out for the 6th inning.
Eric Lauer UNDER 4.5 Strikeouts (-126, DraftKings)
Colorado has a lot of swing-and-miss in their lineup, but Lauer simply hasn’t been missing many bats of late. Since joining the Dodgers, Lauer has a 5.21 FIP and a 7.4% swinging-strike rate. He’s allowing an 89.9% contact rate on swings at pitches in the zone. It’s never easy for hitters to produce when they are coming out of altitude without the benefit of a day off, but Lauer is a hittable pitcher who is far from a guarantee to get deep into this contest.
