Following an exciting All-Star Break, which featured the first swing-off to determine an All-Star Game winner, the regular season returns on Friday with a full 15-game slate. The action began earlier this afternoon at Wrigley Field, but there are still 14 games left to get underway, meaning plenty of betting opportunities still on the board!

As always, be sure to monitor our MLB starting lineups page throughout the day, as unexpected changes in the batting order can result in value opportunities in the betting and DFS markets.

Another reminder – it’s not a bad beat, or unlucky, if you bet a player to hit a home run and his fly ball dies on the warning track because it’s 40 degrees with the wind blowing in! Before locking in any bets, use our MLB weather page, curated by Chief Meteorologist, Kevin Roth. There are countless edges to be found if we make the right reads on possible rain delays and great hitting weather, just to name a few. Taking a look at the weather report can save us from a bad bet that otherwise looks good on the surface.

Below, you can find my 3 picks for Friday, July 18th!

Angel Martinez OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-115, DraftKings)

This season, Martinez has been extremely productive against southpaws, hitting .301 with a 134 wRC+. Tonight, he’s hitting leadoff against JP Sears, who has struggled to a 5.22 FIP and 1.28 WHIP against righties this season. If Martinez can get on base, he should have opportunities to score a run, with David Fry and Jose Ramirez (another lefty-killer) hitting directly behind him. This is good value for a player who will often fly under the radar.

Luis Arraez OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (-165, DraftKings)

Arraez hasn’t had his best year to date, but he’s still hitting .289 against RHP, with a 109 wRC+. Tonight, he gets a great matchup against Michael Soroka, who has struggled to a 5.11 FIP and 1.43 WHIP against lefties this season. Arraez is well-positioned to potentially score a run, with Manny Machado directly behind him, followed by a pair of lefties, who also have a strong platoon advantage against Soroka.

Tyler Glasnow UNDER 15.5 Outs Recorded (+105, DraftKings)

Glasnow returned from the injured list to make 1 start prior to the All-Star Break, but he didn’t look particularly sharp in that appearance. Glasnow didn’t allow an earned run, but he averaged an inefficient 4.25 pitches per batter faced and walked 3 batters. Tonight, he draws the same tough matchup against an extremely patient Milwaukee lineup – an offense that just saw him 9 days ago. The Dodgers are known to be conservative with their starting pitchers, and that could be even more true tonight given that they have a completely rested bullpen coming out of the break. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Glasnow be a 5-and-dive guy tonight.
