MLB Player Props Today

Griffin Canning u5.5 Strikeouts (-160), BetMGM

Frankly, this line is a mistake. Griffin Canning has been sharp in recent weeks with a 29.5% strikeout rate since May 29, but four of his six starts in that time period have come against offensively-challenged lineups. Since June 15, the Los Angeles Dodgers rank 9th in OPS, 10th in ISO, 7th in BB%, and 14th in K% as a team. According to props.cash, only four of the last 10 right-handed pitchers to face the Dodgers have hit the over on their strikeout prop relative to the market number. The juice is likely worth the squeeze in this spot.

Hunter Brown o17.5 Outs Recorded (-115), DraftKings

Do not let last weekend’s poor start from Hunter Brown fool you – he has been throwing the ball extremely well of late, and his efficiency has improved as well. Since June 6, Brown has eclipsed this market number in three of his five turns through the rotation, with one of those misses being a game in which he was pulled after 5.2 innings due to allowing six earned runs. Tonight, Brown has a favorable matchup against the Seattle Mariners, which rank 19th in OPS against right-handed pitching since June 15. The Houston Astros routinely allow Brown to throw nearly 100 pitches. This evening, the Astros bullpen could certainly use some length as they continue to recover from overuse last week. The over is a good look here.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Bryson Stott less than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks

Bryson Stott has been one of our favorite contact specialists in 2023, and for good reason. Entering play on Friday, Stott ranks in the 86th percentile in strikeout rate among qualified hitters. Tonight, he has to face Sandy Alcantara, but last year’s Cy Young award winner has only struck out 20.7% of the left-handed batters that he has faced this season. This is a deceptively good matchup for Stott, trust him to get the job done.
