MLB Player Props Today

Tony Gonsolin u15.5 Outs Recorded (-130), BetMGM

Entering play on Monday, Tony Gonsolin has recorded 15 or fewer outs in 11 of his 17 turns through the rotation in 2023. Since June 25th, Gonsolin has only eclipsed this market number once in seven trips to the hill. In that span, Gonsolin has thrown as few as 54 pitches and only topped 84 pitches twice. Rather than being dependent on pitch count efficiency, the Los Angeles Dodgers seem to be protecting Gonsolin from going through the order for a third time, regardless of his workload. On the season, Gonsolin owns a 0.77 WHIP his first time through the order (TTO), a 1.41 WHIP the second TTO, and a 1.64 WHIP the third TTO. Facing a tough San Diego Padres offense this afternoon, Gonsolin is unlikely to be sent out for the 6th inning, regardless of what happens in the first five frames.

Hyun-Jin Ryu o15.5 Outs Recorded (-130), BetMGM

In his return to the big leagues last week against the Baltimore Orioles, Hyun-Jin Ryu lasted only five innings, but he threw 80 pitches – meaning that he was more than stretched out enough to get into the 6th inning if he had fared better on the mound. In his final minor league rehab outing, Ryu lasted six innings, allowing two earned runs on three hits. Tonight, he gets to face the Cleveland Guardians, which rank 28th in OPS and 26th in ISO against left-handed pitching since July 15th. The over is a great look here.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Luis Matos Less than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, can’t put the blame on you. Fool me three times, and well…I don’t think we end up on the losing end of a Luis Matos strikeout play three days in a row. Since June 28, Matos has struck out in only 11.0% of his total plate appearances and never had more than two consecutive games with a punchout. Following a rough weekend at the dish in Oakland, he is poised for a better day with the bat against Patrick Sandoval this evening. Trust him to get the job done.
