MLB Player Props Today

Andrew Abbott u16.5 Outs Recorded (-128), FanDuel

In his first 10 turns through the rotation, Andrew Abbott had a 1.90 ERA, 3.73 FIP, and a 0.96 WHIP. Across his last six starts, he has a 6.67 ERA, 4.41 FIP, and a 1.81 WHIP. During his recent cold stretch, Abbott has consistently fallen behind in counts, which has forced him to challenge hitters with fastballs more later in the count. The result has been more walks and a much higher contact percentage on pitches thrown in the zone. The Chicago Cubs have been mediocre offensively against left-handed pitching in recent weeks, but they should still be able to send Abbott to the showers early in this contest, as most of Abbott’s recent struggles have been self-inflicted.

Luis Severino u4.5 Strikeouts (-146), FanDuel

Absolutely nothing has gone well for Luis Severino in 2023. Entering play on Saturday, Severino owns a 6.64 ERA, 6.11 xERA, 6.04 FIP, and a 1.66 WHIP. He has delivered back-to-back scoreless outings against lackluster offenses, but had struggled to an 11.08 ERA and a 7.97 FIP in his previous seven turns through the rotation. Since August 15, the Houston Astros rank 6th in OPS, 14th ISO, and have struck out less often against right-handed pitching than any other team in the league. This is a strong look for this evening’s slate.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Freddie Freeman Less Than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks

Freddie Freeman makes it a personal goal to strike out fewer than 100 times each season. While he is going to fall short of that goal this year, the goal speaks more to his approach at the plate than anything else. Tonight, Freeman gets to face Bryce Elder, who has struck out only 14.2% of the batters he has faced in 2023. Freeman should be able to avoid a punchout in this situation.
