Happy Independence Day! The nation’s typical kickoff for the Fourth of July, the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, was canceled earlier this morning due to inclement weather, but the betting community still has a 15-game MLB slate on tap for today, giving everyone plenty of opportunities to enjoy the holiday. As of this writing, 11 games are yet to get underway, leaving plenty of options on the board for bettors to consider adding to their card.

MLB Player Props Today

James Outman o0.5 Total Bases (-140), BetMGM

Following a torrid start to the 2023 campaign, James Outman went into a freefall during the beginning of the summer. However, there are signs that he is finally beginning to turn things around, at least a little bit. Since June 23, Outman owns a somewhat respectable .243 batting average and has hit safely in five of nine games in that span. Tonight, he has an extremely favorable matchup against Luis Ortiz, who has struggled mightily against left-handed hitters this season. Expect Outman to collect at least one base knock in this spot.

Freddie Freeman o1.5 Total Bases (+100), BetMGM

Simply, Freddie Freeman is one of the most talented hitters in all of baseball. Entering play on Tuesday, Freeman owns an impressive .321 batting average, .892 OPS, and a 142 wRC+ against right-handed pitching in 2023. Luis Ortiz enters play with an abysmal 8.31 FIP, 2.73 WHIP, and has allowed a .384 opponent batting average to left-handed hitters this season at the big-league level. At even money, this is perhaps the best value on the entire slate in the player prop market – take the over on Freeman’s total bases.

MLB DFS Pick’em

Steven Kwan less than 0.5 Hitter Strikeouts, PrizePicks

Kolby Allard does not have any single season with a significant sample size of MLB-level data to analyze, but his career numbers indicate that he has rather pedestrian stuff against the world’s best hitters. Since making his MLB debut, Allard has struck out only 21.4% of left-handed batters that he has seen. Yesterday, Steven Kwan struck out for the first time in nearly a week as he continues to have one of the most contact-oriented approaches in all of baseball. Against southpaws in 2023, Kwan has struck out in only 12.6% of his plate appearances. Trust him to put the ball in play each time he steps in the box tonight.
