MLB fans will be “treated” to a battle between the two worst teams in the league to begin the new week on the diamond. Ahead of the first pitch on Monday, the Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics have, by far, the two worst records in all of baseball. Lucky for them, one of these two teams will be forced to win a couple of games in the next few days!

On Sunday Night Baseball, we were one Nick Castellanos total base away from cashing our longshot parlay, which has been the theme of the last week. In the last two weeks, we have had six parlays miss by one leg in this article. Still, we have cashed a +758 parlay, a +837 parlay, and a +711 parlay in that span as well.

Not counting the All-Star Game, we have cashed eight tickets in this article, narrowly missed 27 winners, and had 21 tickets seemingly dead on arrival. Playing longshot parlays each day, these results are within the parameters of what is expected. As we highlight every day, these plays have been exceptionally profitable if played as individual tickets.

In this article, we never post a ticket with shorter than +700 odds, meaning that we only need to hit once each week to be profitable. Overall, these plays are 95-77-1 (55.8%) if played as straight wagers, many of which have been significant alt-lines, even as individual tickets.

Below, we break down our favorite longshot (+732) look for August 21, focusing on today’s matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Oakland Athletics!

MLB Parlay Piece for August 21, 2023

Kansas City Royals -1.5 (+190)

Make no mistake, the Kansas City Royals are a bad baseball team. Nevertheless, there are levels to things, and no team is remotely close to as bad as the Oakland Athletics. Entering play on Monday, the Athletics are five games behind the Royals in the standings, despite Kansas City having the second-worst record in the big leagues. During the month of August, the Royals rank 5th in OPS against right-handed pitching, giving them the offensive advantage in this matchup. If the pitching can hold up, Kansas City could find themselves in position for a comfortable win on Monday.

Bobby Witt 2+ Total Bases (-115)

Since July 28, “(player-popup #bobby-witt)Bobby Witt Jr owns an incredulous .422 batting average, 1.247 OPS, and a 239 wRC+. Simply, it has not mattered who is on the mound for the opposing team of late – Witt Jr. has produced. Tonight, he gets a favorable matchup against Paul Blackburn, who is due for negative regression after outperforming the vast majority of his peripherals across the last month of action. Do not be surprised if Witt Jr. has another spectacular day at the office to begin the new week.

Salvador Perez 2+ Total Bases (+120)

Salvador Perez is having a disappointing season overall, but he has started to turn a corner of late, with a .387 batting average, .995 OPS, and 162 wRC+ since August 11. Amazingly, Perez has only one extra-base hit in that span, but has still recorded multiple bases in five of his last eight games played. Across the board, Perez has been far better against right-handed pitching than against southpaws in 2023, making this a good spot to invest in him as part of today’s longshot parlay.
