Saturday’s 15-game MLB slate featured mostly afternoon action, but there are still four games on tap for this evening. If bettors missed out on the fun earlier in the day, they still have plenty of time to find a few spots that they like.
Since we began posting this article, we have had 13 near misses, five cashed tickets, and 10 parlays that were seemingly dead on arrival – all normal outcomes when consistently betting longshot parlays.
In this article, we never post a ticket with shorter than +700 odds, meaning that we only need to hit once each week to be profitable, which we have achieved to date. Overall, these plays are 48-36 (57.1%) if played as straight wagers, many of which have been significant alt-lines, even as individual tickets.
Below, we break down our favorite longshot (+750) look for July 8, focusing on today’s matchup between the Los Angeles Angels and Los Angeles Dodgers!

MLB Parlay Piece for July 8, 2023
- Los Angeles Angels Moneyline
- Shohei Ohtani 2+ Total Bases
- Reid Detmers 8+ Strikeouts
Los Angeles Angels Moneyline (+120)
Is there a team more in need of the All-Star break than the Los Angeles Dodgers? Probably not. Los Angeles is 6-4 in their last 10 contests, but they are limping to the Mid-Summer Classic in terms of pitching, and still have not announced a starter for tonight’s cross-town affair. After winning each of their last three games, this is a spot in which Manager Dave Roberts has the cards stacked against him due to his extreme bullpen usage. The road underdogs have value here.
Shohei Ohtani 2+ Total Bases (-110)
Heading into Saturday’s action, Shohei Ohtani owns a 1.015 OPS against left-handed pitching and a 1.037 OPS against right-handed pitching in 2023. Simply, Ohtani is capable of mashing baseballs, regardless of who is on the mound against him. The Los Angeles Dodgers are yet to announce a starting pitcher for this evening’s contest, but Ohtani is a good candidate for two total bases no matter who ends up on the bump. Ohtani has only four hits in his last 33 plate appearances, despite a 23.5% barrel rate and a 52.9% hard-hit percentage in that span. Expect some positive regression to the mean in this matchup.
Reid Detmers 8+ strikeouts (+230)
Since June 8, Reid Detmers has at least eight strikeouts in each of his five trips to the hill. Tonight, he gets a favorable matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which rank 23rd in strikeout percentage against left-handed pitching since June 15. According to props.cash, each of the last five left-handed starting pitchers to face the Dodgers have hit the over on their strikeout prop, with three pitchers tallying at least seven punchouts. This alt-line is a worthy inclusion in today’s longshot parlay.
