MLB Parlay Piece for June 15, 2023
- Cristian Javier u5.5 Strikeouts
- Luis Garcia 3+ Total Bases
- Nationals Moneyline
Cristian Javier u5.5 Strikeouts (-160)
On Tuesday night, the Washington Nationals had six left-handed bats in the lineup against right-hander Hunter Brown, making it likely that the lineup will once again feature the same composition this evening against Cristian Javier. On the season, Javier owns a 32.9% strikeout rate against right-handed batters, but only a 17.7% strikeout rate against left-handed hitters. Facing lefties, Javier owns a 4.56 FIP and 1.31 WHIP, both of which are far worse than his numbers across the other side of the platoon. Expect strikeouts to be few and far between for Javier in this spot against an extremely high-contact Washington lineup.
Luis Garcia 3+ Total Bases (+290)
Luis Garcia is far from a superstar, but he has been swinging the bat better of late and offers upside in this matchup due to Cristian Javier’s struggles with left-handed hitters. Garica owns a .273 batting average and a .708 OPS against right-handed pitching this season. Across his last 11 games, Garcia has three separate instances in which he has amassed at least three total bases. If you are looking for a long shot in this matchup, Garcia fits the mold.
Washington Nationals Moneyline (+166)
Simply, the Washington Nationals are tremendously undervalued in this spot. Cristian Javier has a reputation of being a borderline elite starting pitcher, but his struggles against left-handed batters make him extremely vulnerable to a high-contact, lefty-heavy lineup. MacKenzie Gore is not the best starting pitcher in the league, but his 4.04 ERA and 4.20 FIP give his team a fighting chance tonight if Washington can score some runs. This is a worthwhile risk.
