MLB Parlay Piece for August 22, 2023

Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-128)

Simply, the Los Angeles Dodgers are a championship-caliber team that is fighting for the best record in the National League, while the Cleveland Guardians already have one eye on 2024. In this contest, the Dodgers have the better offense and the better starting pitcher by wide margins. Any debate about the strength of these two bullpens is not enough to warrant any serious considerations about the Guardians pulling an upset here. The math all points in one direction as far as a side goes in this battle.

Bobby Miller 3+ Strikeouts (-1400)

The juice is steep on this prop, but Bobby Miller has managed to record at least three strikeouts in each of his first 14 starts at the big league level. Tonight, he has a matchup with the Cleveland Guardians, which rank 19th in OPS and 26th in ISO against right-handed pitching during the month of August. Even though Cleveland is a high-contact lineup, Miller should be able to get three strikeouts based on volume, assuming he can get deep into this game against a weak offense.

Freddie Freeman 2+ Total Bases (-140)

Freddie Freeman has been the best left-handed hitter in all of baseball this year, and it isn’t particularly close. Entering play on Tuesday, he owns a sensational .325 batting average, .935 OPS, and 151 wRC+ against right-handed pitching. Facing Noah Syndergaard, who has struggled against everyone this year, Freeman is well-positioned for a big day at the dish.

Max Muncy 4+ Total Bases (+240)

This is essentially a wager on Max Muncy to leave the yard on Tuesday, but we get a little bit of insurance here in the event that he has multiple extra-base hits that don’t end up over the fence. Muncy has demolished offspeed offerings and fastballs from right-handed pitchers this year, which are the primary pitches thrown by Noah Syndergaard. Do not be surprised if he has a strong performance in this matchup.
