NBA Advanced Projections: Friday, February 9th

When I first got into NBA DFS, the phrase I kept hearing was “minutes = money.” The concept is simple enough: A player averages a certain number of points per minute, and if he gets a certain number of minutes, we can expect him to be one of the best point per dollar scorers on the slate. Unfortunately, as we’ve all learned, not all projections are created equal. Every day, I build my own projection set for NBA. Some days, that’s easy. If a team has a neutral matchup and isn’t missing any bodies, a base set of projections works just fine. Other days though, especially as the NBA season rolls along, it gets a lot more complicated.

Friday, February 9th

Now that the trade deadline has come and gone, we finally don’t have to concern ourselves with players being on ‘hug watch.’ Over the last couple weeks, I’ve been hesitant to roster guys like DeAndre Jordan or Lou Williams out of fear they would be traded before their west coast game started. As of yesterday, those fears no longer exist.

The biggest splash, clearly, was made by the Cleveland Cavaliers. They shipped Isaiah Thomas and a bunch of spare parts out of town and are getting back multiple pieces that should be able to help them get to the finals in 2018. With the Cavs and Hawks tipping off just 30 minutes after lock tonight, we should have a clear understanding of whether the likes of Jordan Clarkson, George Hill, Rodney Hood, and Larry Nance will be making their Cavaliers debut.
