NBA Betting Picks for Wednesday, October 30: Hornets at Kings -7.5, O/U 223

The Sacramento Kings come into this game with the worst record in the NBA at 0-4. Expectations may have been high for this team, they have failed to meet them through the first four games, but the reason for that is largely due to injuries and their schedule. While they may have started the season with a horrible loss to the Suns, their next three matchups have been against some of the top teams in the NBA in the Blazers, the Jazz, and the Nuggets. The Kings hopefully return Harry Giles which will drastically help a team that has missed his size. A game against the Hornets is a perfect get-right spot. The Kings were slightly under .500 last season but were absolutely fantastic at home going 24-17 compared to 15-26 on the road. Additionally, the Kings performed well as home favorites (11-6 ATS) and 25-14-2 ATS at home overall.

Looking at the Kings points totals on the season, they have gone 1-3 on the Over and were a .500 team on the total last year. Where we see a drastic disparity was on their home/road splits. They covered the Over at a 43.9% clip at home compared to 56.1% on the road. The Kings were near the top of the league in terms of pace a year ago, and this season they have been near the bottom of the league sitting at 27th. This may be due to the injuries or their opponents, but I think that might be a trend that will continue in the short term.

While the Kings may have the worse record of the two teams in this game, the Hornets have been the much worse team with their lone win coming against the Bulls in their home opener. They have a similar team that missed the playoffs last season, plus a drastic downgrade at the PG position going from Kemba Walker to Terry Rozier. Overall, this is a roster that lacks talent and has struggled on the road. The Hornets are unlikely to keep this game close and will have a tough time scoring.

My NBA Betting Picks: Kings -7.5 and the Under 223

This is one of the few games where I actually like a bet on both the total and on the spread. The Kings are a fantastic home team and the Hornets are horrible on the road. Additionally, the public opinion on the Kings is probably much lower than it should be considering their record.

Looking at the betting numbers, we see that the public is hammering the Over at a near 60% clip and there has been some reverse line movement. Add in the Kings track record as a home favorite last year and their large home/road splits on the totals and you find me Ioving the Kings -7.5 and the Under 223*
