It’s already snowing in my neck of the woods. We went straight from summer to winter without enjoying the fall. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas as much as anyone, but I didn’t get hardly any of the great golfing weather. Utah’s silly alcohol and gambling laws leave much to be desired, but it’s a beautiful place, especially for golfers and outdoor enthusiasts (not that we DFS players spend much time outdoors).

As Taylor Smith mentioned in this article yesterday, we have an extremely strange week for the NBA schedule. There were 5 games last night, there are 8 games tonight, there are 11 games tomorrow, and then only 1 game on Thursday. I know it’s a lot to ask, but it would be great if the NBA would cater their schedule to DFS players and bettors. If we could have between 6 and 9 games every night, it would be bliss.

We don’t have any teams playing on the second half of a back-to-back tonight, but we do have nine teams playing on the front end of a back-to-back (Magic, Celtics, Knicks, Sixers, Pistons, Bucks, Wolves, Blazers, Suns). Let’s dive into the team breakdowns.

Team Previews

Atlanta Hawks (at BOS)

The Hawks are expected to be without Trae Young, De’Andre Hunter, and Bogdan Bogdanovic. This hurts their chances of keeping this game competitive, but it does open up a lot of usage in the offense and minutes in the rotation. The Celtics are top 10 in most defensive metrics this season. The Hawks are 15.5-point underdogs and have the lowest team total on the board. Using the ON/OFF Tool at FantasyLabs, let’s see who benefits the most with those three off the floor:

Jalen Johnson sees a massive 12% usage boost with those three off the floor this season. The matchup is not ideal, and we have to worry about a blowout, but if the Hawks keep this game competitive, we could see a ceiling performance from Johnson. Garrison Matthews is cheap and is projected for 30 minutes, Keaton Wallace has a path to minutes in the 20s off the bench (potentially more in a blowout), and we’ve seen upside from Zaccharie Risacher this season. The punts are viable in all formats, while Johnson and Risacher are best suited as tournament plays.
