Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?

Notorious: Julius Randle – The Wolves have an elite matchup against the Jazz. I expect many to look to Anthony Edwards and maybe even Rudy Gobert (revenge game). For whatever reason, Randle always seems to fly under the radar. He got off to a slow start this season but has really picked up his play recently. He has topped 45 fantasy points in 3 of his last 6 games. The Jazz are one of the worst defensive teams in the league, so getting Randle at likely low ownership is a nice way to be different in tournaments.

headChopper: Rudy Gobert – It’s tough to get too contrarian on a small slate, but a one-dimensional, center-only player is one way to do it. Gobert is priced affordably, and the Jazz are fully embracing the tank. Don’t forget the revenge angle—this is Gobert’s 5th meeting against his former team. Excluding the game where he played just 5 minutes due to a groin injury, he has averaged 14.3 points, 14.7 rebounds, and 2.5 stocks per game against the team that traded him away for draft picks.

Dean78904: Jaden McDaniels – It is not often I highlight a player who gets 0.81 FD / 0.79 DK points per minute, but it is a small slate, McDaniels is cheap, he plays a boatload of minutes, and I just like attacking Utah with players who can have outlier stocks games. No team has given up more steals per game or has gotten blocked more than the Jazz. Additionally, the Jazz have given up the 4th-most made 3s. McDaniels averages 2.4 stocks per game and 1.3 made triples. The Timberwolves are projecting to be one of the most appealing teams on the slate, but McDaniels currently has just the 6th-highest pOWN% among his teammates. I’m not sure you’ll need him, but I don’t think he is likely to hurt you, and I can see a path for an optimal game from McDaniels.
