Who is your favorite play (when considering price, matchup, roster construction, etc.) on the board and why?
Notorious: Jalen Johnson – The Hawks draw one of the best matchups on the slate, as they square off against the Pelicans. This is an elite game environment, as both teams are in the top 10 in pace and the bottom 6 in points allowed per game. Johnson has scored at least 50 fantasy points in 14 of his last 16 games and should continue to dominate usage with Trae Young out.
Dean78904: Jalen Johnson – Trae Young is out tonight, and his days may be numbered in Atlanta. We haven’t seen a huge difference with Johnson’s rates this season when Trae sits, but he gets a boost in assist rate and averages a robust 1.45 fantasy points per minute. The Hawks have a massive implied team total of 129 points, and Johnson should play 35-37 minutes. The Pelicans have the NBA’s 3rd-worst defensive efficiency, and they are the 4th-best matchup for Versatile Forwards according to our Defense vs. Archetype Tool. Additionally, they have allowed the 2nd-most assists and 5th-most rebounds. Among all of the big spends on the slate, Johnson is the most appealing option for me.
ncorfield8k: Paul Reed – The Pistons remain shorthanded with Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris out and Cade Cunningham questionable. Reed should start for Duren and see big minutes if the game stays competitive. It’s a strong matchup with the Bulls, who rank 9th in pace and 24th in defensive rating over the last 10 games. It’s the 7th-best matchup for Post Bigs in our Defense vs. Archetype tool.
Who is your favorite contrarian play (when considering price, matchup, projected ownership, etc.) on the board and why?
