NBA Player Props Today – Tuesday, February 13, 2024

Nic Claxton Over/Under 22.5 Points + Rebounds

Since Ben Simmons returned to the floor on January 29, Nic Claxton has scored fewer than 13 points in 4 of 6 games that the two players have shared the floor. The two exceptions came against – 1) the Warriors, which are league-average defending around the rim, and 2) the Spurs, who have allowed the 3rd-most attempts in the restricted area of any team during the last 30 days. Tonight, Claxton is likely to find it more difficult to score the basketball, facing a Celtics defense that has allowed the 5th-fewest opponent field goal attempts per game in the restricted area while holding opponents to the 4th-lowest success rate on such attempts.

On the glass, Claxton is averaging only 9.7 rebounds and 16.4 rebound chances since January 29, compared to 10.3 rebounds and 18.3 rebound chances from November 7 to January 28 with Simmons out of commission. This combination market number is simply too high on Tuesday for Claxton, assuming Simmons plays.

Anthony Davis Over/Under 25.5 Points

In recent weeks, Anthony Davis has been tremendously volatile on the offensive end of the floor, scoring as many as 32 points against the Nuggets, but as few as 12 points against the Knicks in February alone. From a betting perspective, the most notable takeaway from his recent performances is his relative lack of aggression – attempting 16 shots or fewer in 3 of his last 4 games. His reduced role on the offensive end of the floor appears to be linked to part of a larger trend, with the big man averaging 19.8 field goal attempts per game in December, 17.1 field goal attempts per game in January, and now 16.5 field goal attempts per game to begin February.

The Pistons do not scream “tough matchup” in any regard, but they have been closer to the league average than the basement when it comes to defending the rim during the last month. Other than a 30-point performance from Domantas Sabonis, opposing centers have not experienced much success scoring the basketball against Detroit of late. The under could have value here, especially in a blowout game script.

Ben Simmons Over/Under 5.5 Assists

In 4 games to begin February, Ben Simmons is averaging only 4.8 assists and 8.8 potential assists per game, with his minutes still capped during that stretch. Tonight, Simmons gets a tough matchup against a Celtics defense that has allowed the 6th-fewest assists of any team in the NBA during the last 30 days. Thus far in February, only two players have managed more than 15 potential assists in a matchup against the Celtics, and both of those players were on the court for at least 37 minutes. If we restrict the filter to 24 minutes or fewer, Terry Rozier (11 potential assists) is the only player to have more than 8 potential assists against the Celtics this month with a reduced workload. The math indicates that the under is far more likely than the over in this spot. We will live with the results.
