Suns vs. Heat PrizePicks Predictions

Devin Booker More/Less Than 5.5 Assists

At last, we’ll finally have a decisive battle between the Suns and Heat. Suns create Heat, so I suppose Phoenix has the natural edge in this one. Vegas agrees as the Suns are 5.5-point home favorites.

The Suns added a couple of much-needed point guards this offseason in Tyus Jones and Monte Morris. Remember, they spent all of last season with Devin Booker masquerading as the de facto PG. He responded by averaging a career-high 6.9 assists per game. He’s back down to an average of 5.7 dimes a night so far this season, as he’s shifted back to playing his more natural shooting guard position.

Even though they’re favored, this is still a difficult on-paper matchup for Phoenix. Miami is running at the NBA’s 3rd-slowest pace, and they’re top 10 in defensive efficiency. The Heat are allowing an average of just 23 assists per game, the 4th-lowest mark in the Association. While Booker still has the ball in his hands enough to create shots for his teammates, taking him to finish with less than 5.5 assists looks like a logical approach given the matchup.

Clippers vs. Sixers PrizePicks Predictions

Ivica Zubac More/Less Than 28.5 Points + Rebounds

The Clippers finally won their first game at the sparkling new Intuit Dome the other night, and they’ll look to make it 2 in a row when the Sixers pay a visit. LA is a 1.5-point favorite with Philly still missing Joel Embiid, which means Ivica Zubac will spend most of the night tangling with Andre Drummond.

While the team doesn’t look all that impressive, the Clips have gotten a promising start from Ivica Zubac, who’s averaging career-bests in both points (17.4) and rebounds (13) per game through 7 outings this season. With LA having lost Paul George and still missing Kawhi Leonard, Zu is seeing more usage (21.2%). This is also a player who’s never even averaged 30 minutes per game in his career, yet this season, he’s logging north of 34 minutes a night.

The Clippers will occasionally phase Zubac out of games offensively. I’m somewhat concerned he could get played off the floor here if Philly again rolls with Guerschon Yabusele to play big minutes at center in place of Drummond. Our projections team still has Zu projected for 33 minutes. That should be more than enough for him to get past 28.5 combined points and rebounds given the bigger role he’s played this season.

Sixers vs. Clippers PrizePicks Predictions

Paul George More/Less Than 25.5 Points + Rebounds

Paul George made his highly-anticipated Sixers debut in the last game in Phoenix, and tonight he’ll face his former team for the first time since skipping town over the summer. George has been dealing with a knee injury he suffered in the preseason, but he went out there and somewhat surprisingly played 32 minutes in his first game of the season.

PG-13 was predictably a little rusty, as he knocked down just 4 of his 14 field goal attempts and finished with 15 points and 5 rebounds. He posted a 31.4% usage rate in his debut, while the usage for Tyrese Maxey cratered to about 19% in the 24 minutes they shared the floor. While I think George’s usage will dip and Maxey’s will increase on average, there are still shots to go around here with Embiid missing from the lineup.

George cobbled together 20 combined points and rebounds in his first game despite shooting just 28% from the field. He’s historically a significantly more accurate shooter than that, and 32 minutes is more than enough for him to project as a strong candidate to surpass 25.5 combined points and boards in this one.
