NFL DFS Duds Report: Reviewing Week 8

It didn’t go well for everyone in this week’s NFL slate. We need to look back on the duds of DFS after a slate of an otherwise eventful day in the NFL. We had great action on DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo for daily fantasy sports, but these players may have spoiled your fun. We’ll reflect on the DFS projections and ownership projections, and look for ways we could have avoided these low scoring plays for our DFS lineups. Using our ResultsDB tool, let’s take a look back at three of the very worst picks players made.

Today’s ResultsDB Low DFS Scorers From Last Week

Kareem Hunt

DraftKings Salary: $6,900
FanDuel Salary: $8,200
Yahoo Salary: $30
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 9.3
DraftKings Fantasy Ownership: 37.56%

I have already seen a lot of hindsight analysis regarding Kareem Hunt Week 8 performance and let me tell you, I’m not having it. Was it the best game environment for Hunt to succeed? No, but it wasn’t the weather that held Hunt in check, it was Cleveland’s overall ineptitude on offense. Cleveland ran just 49 offensive plays in this game, yet Hunt was involved in 17 of them (14 carries, 3 targets) and handled 14-of-16 RB carries. That’s the role that we signed up for when rostering Hunt and I am not going to let a poor overall offensive performance out of Cleveland convince me that Hunt was a bad play. My only concern for Hunt moving forward is that he hasn’t been near as involved as a pass-catcher as I thought he would be with Nick Chubb sidelined, which lower both his floor and ceiling.

A.J. Green

DraftKings Salary: $4,500
FanDuel Salary: $5,800
Yahoo Salary: $17
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 3.9
DraftKings Ownership: 19.97%

Hand up, I thought A.J. Green was a fine play this week. I did end up downgrading Green a bit late in the week when it became obvious wind was going to be an issue, but I still don’t fault anyone for rostering him. Green seemed to be trending his way up after working his way back from injury, racking up 24 targets over the two weeks prior but saw just 5 balls thrown his way in Week 8. Encouragingly, AJG ran a route on 37-of-42 Joe Burrow dropbacks, the second-most on the team, and there’s no indication that he’ll see any sort of reduced role moving forward.

George Kittle

DraftKings Salary: $7,000
FanDuel Salary: $7,700
Yahoo Salary: $27
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 5.9
DraftKings Ownership: 14.93%

This one hurts. I thought George Kittle was going to absolutely smash against a porous Seattle defense but Jimmy G just couldn’t get the offense clicking early on. Unfortunately, Kittle got injured shortly into the fourth quarter when San Francisco finally started to move the ball with Nick Mullens under center. Kittle is now expected to miss eight weeks and the 49ers will have to rely on Ross Dwelley and the oft-injured Jordan Reed (returning from IR this week) to fill his role in the meantime.
