NFL DFS DraftKings & FanDuel Expert Survey (Afternoon Slate): Week 9 Picks

Who is your favorite player to spend up for in cash games?

headChopper: Jaxon Smith-Njigba
stevietpfl: Christian McCaffrey
TJ Zwarych: Jaxon Smith-Njigba

How do you plan to beat the field of opponents in the tournaments you will be playing? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?

headChopper: I’m assuming Drew Lock steps in here with Sam Darnold ruled out, but I’ll adjust if Jalen Milroe gets the start. I think whoever starts at quarterback for Seattle will find some success against this weak Cardinals pass defense. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba being the primary target, I’ll be way overweight on that combination compared to the field. I’ll also be overweight on the San Francisco running backs regardless of whether Christian McCaffrey is healthy or not. I’ll have at least one San Francisco running back in every lineup. It’s only a 4-game slate, and a couple of these games look like they could turn into blowouts, so I’ll make sure I’m overweight on the HOU/LAC contest, which I think has the potential to put some points on the board.

stevietpfl: I want to pay down at quarterback with Drew Lock and Gardner Minshew. Looking at pOWN%, the 49ers are going to be popular, but I still want to play Christian McCaffrey and George Kittle. I like running it back with Michael Mayer to be different. With the current injuries for the Cardinals, I want to play Tyler Allgeier as a main play across my lineups. It’s a rare situation where I’m okay with playing my running back and quarterback together.

TJ Zwarych: The Seattle QB is going to be my starting spot for this slate, regardless of whether that is Drew Lock or Jalen Milroe. However, assuming it’s Lock, I want to hit the lock button on him and Jaxon Smith-Njigba and then figure out the rest of my build from there. I certainly will want exposure to the 49ers in a fantastic spot against the Raiders, but a lot will depend on which of their pass catchers are active come game day. If Mike Evans plays, he’s the first choice, but if not, I’ll start looking at George Kittle and Demarcus Robinson (if he’s active). I also want to keep an eye on the Patriots injury news, as Mack Hollins is expected to be activated off the IR. If he is, he’s my favorite cheap receiver on the slate. If he isn’t active, I’ll pivot to Efton Chism.

Who’s your favorite contrarian play and why?

Robert Brown (aka Epignosis) was having lunch at a sports bar. A football game was on. He remarked to his wife that if he could have a second life, he’d like to be someone who enjoyed watching sports. That enjoyment began when he signed up for a fantasy football league that needed one more player. Since then, he has enjoyed playing NFL, NBA, and (especially) MLB DFS. When not teaching American literature, editing content for RotoGrinders (which he has done since 2019), or making lineups, Epignosis is rocking out or jazzing it up on one of several possible instruments.
