Hittin' The Nuts - Squirrelpatrol's Top Stacks: Week 7

HittinTheNuts

Want to hit the nuts and take down 1st place in these massive contests posted by FanDuel and DraftKings? Who better to walk you through their favorite NFL DFS stacks than Squirrelpatrol! Undoubtedly one of the best DFS players in the game today, Squirrelpatrol has accumulated 90+ Live Final seats, taking 2nd place in the 2023 DraftKings Fantasy Baseball World Championship for a $600,000 prize, and most recently, he took down the Milly Maker on the Week 2 MNF 2-game slate. Should we roster the chalk stack? How off-the-board should we get in large-field tournaments? Squirrelpatrol answers all of these questions and more below!

As DFS strategies get more advanced, moving from hunch-based decision-making to play-by-play simulations meant to measure how often certain players or stacks appear in the optimal lineup, it’s important to pair both quantitative and qualitative analysis when putting together our NFL DFS lineups. Each week, I’ll be taking a look at our Optimal Stack Tool for both FanDuel and DraftKings and giving some thoughts on what the best NFL DFS stacks will be for different contest types and sizes.

Chalk Stack – Lamar Jackson vs. Detroit Lions

At home in Baltimore and facing the Lions Lamar Jackson is showing up as the highest-owned QB on both FanDuel and DraftKings this week according to our Optimal Stacks Tool. Jackson is showing up at a whopping 18.3% owned on FanDuel (16% optimal rate) and 8.9% owned on DraftKings (8.9% optimal rate). These ownership numbers might seem high – particularly on FanDuel at nearly 1/5th of the rosters in play – but Jackson does have a number of factors in his favor this week.

Baltimore is playing at home as a 3-point favorite in a game with a 43.5 point total – that total might seem low, but keep in mind this is a 10-game slate with only one game total above 45 points. Jackson gets more points on the ground than any other QB in play this week, and with scoring down across the NFL, those extra points from rushing yards and possibly touchdowns hold even more weight, especially on FanDuel. I said it last season when Jackson broke off an 80-yard touchdown run: The points from that one play alone were like a passing-dependent QB throwing for a 250-yard touchdown pass. I don’t know if I’ll end up over the estimated 18% ownership on FanDuel, but I’ll probably be close, and Lamar is an excellent QB choice for all formats (cash, single entry, or large-field GPP) this week.

If I’m using Jackson in a stack this week, I’ll pay particular attention to pairing him with lower-owned options in tournaments. Jackson’s obvious stacking partners are Zay Flowers and Mark Andrews, and both are expected to see high ownership as well. If I’m using that combination, I’ll want to get off the chalk with low-owned plays elsewhere in my lineups.
