NFL DFS Stud WR Spotlight: Week 8 Projections

Player Projections are set for this week, and our sights are now set on Sunday’s main slate for DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo!. The time is now to unleash the RotoGrinders LineupHQ Optimizer to discover the top projected wide receivers on the week. In this article, we will use the DFS player projections we create to discuss some high priced pass catchers with strong outlooks this week. We’ll also examine a high priced receiver who has some downside as well. Let’s get busy analyzing the slate, so that we can use projected ownership to make some key decisions later in the week.

Week 8 NFL DFS Wide Receiver Report

Davante Adams

davante-adams-800x480

NFL Team: Green Bay Packers
Opponent: Minnesota Vikings
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 23.55
FanDuel Fantasy Points: 18.42
Yahoo Fantasy Points: 18.42

Adams is trying to lap the field in our wide receiver projections this week. An early run of our projections (I am writing this on Wednesday morning) has him a full three fantasy points out ahead of the next closest WR on FanDuel (Thielen) and approaching four fantasy points on DraftKings.

When you look at the volume Adams has gotten this season, it is easy to see why he is projecting so far ahead of the field too. He has played three full games this season: Week 1, Week 6, and Week 7. He missed a lot of the Week 2 game due to a few injuries, and those injuries caused him to miss Weeks 3-4. The Packers had their bye in Week 5.

So what did the advanced stats look like for Adams in those three games? Only this:

88% snap percentage, 14.3 targets per game, 40.3% market share of targets, 124.7 air yards per game, 42% market share of air yards

Folks, he had a game of 16 targets and another game of 17 targets! That is just ridiculous. RIP to you if you had to face him in season long in any of those games.

On tap for Adams in Week 8 is an elite matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, but you certainly will have to pay for it. Adams is $9,100 on FanDuel and $8,800 on DraftKings.

Tyreek Hill

NFL Team: Kansas City Chiefs
Opponent: New York Jets
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 18.81
FanDuel Fantasy Points: 14.96
Yahoo Fantasy Points: 14.96

This one varies by site a little bit, as Tyreek is the third most expensive WR ($8,100) on FanDuel but is just $6,700 on DraftKings (ninth most expensive). And with FanDuel being a more touchdown-driven scoring system, he isn’t nearly as appealing there with that more expensive price tag.

Of course, the Chiefs get to play the Jets this week, and you can’t tell me that you don’t envision Tyreek just turning on the…jets (pun intended!)…and blowing past this secondary for a long score. If he isn’t able to do that early though, the game-script starts to become a concern. Sure, the Chiefs will want to take care of business and make sure their offense is rolling. But at a certain point, they are likely to take the foot off the gas if this game gets out of hand.

I think Tyreek is definitely a guy in which to monitor the Projected Ownership closely. My guess is that his price tag on FD and a lower median projection (compared to others in his price range that is) is going to keep ownership extremely low. If that is the case, then he actually does become extremely appealing in tournament formats, where we care far more about ceiling and ownership.

Adam Thielen

NFL Team: Minnesota Vikings
Opponent: Green Bay Packers
DraftKings Fantasy Points: 19.84
FanDuel Fantasy Points: 15.44
Yahoo Fantasy Points: 15.44

The last time we saw Thielen was as massive chalk in Week 6, when a garbage time two-yard touchdown salvaged what was otherwise a disastrous fantasy game (5 targets, 3 receptions, 51 yards). Coming out of their bye week though, I am expecting a nice bounce-back game from Thielen going up against the Packers.

We currently have Thielen with the second highest WR projection on the slate, yet he isn’t exactly priced like that. On FanDuel, he is $7,700 and just the fifth most expensive WR. On DraftKings, he is $7,200 and the fourth most expensive WR.

The Vikings are roughly a touchdown underdog against Green Bay this week, so the game-script should be favorable for Thielen in that regard. And even with Dalvin Cook expected back (and Jefferson having the big Week 6 game), I am still expecting Thielen to go back to being the target monster he was in the first five games of the season. In that span, he had a 34.2% market share of the targets. Conversely, Jefferson was at just 19.3%.

So if you want to spend up at WR this week but can’t quite get to Adams, Thielen certainly makes for a nice alternative.
