NFL Week 12 Betting Picks: Cowboys at Patriots

Aside from Sunday Night Football’s matchup between the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers, there’s not a more anticipated Week 12 matchup than the Dallas Cowboys New England Patriots. The Cowboys are 6.5-point underdogs and the total is 46 points at Sports betting sites.

The 2019-20 season as been a roller coaster for the Dallas Cowboys. After starting the season 3-0 and seeing their odds to win the Super Bowl jump to +800 — only behind the Patriots and Chiefs at the time — the Cowboys started a freefall that included three losses from Week 4 to Week 6. There was no loss more embarrassing than a 24-22 loss to the New York Jets. Dallas bounced back with its biggest of the season against the Philadelphia Eagles to sit atop the NFC East. That lead is now in jeopardy as the Jason Garrett and Dak Prescott travel to Foxborough to take on Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
Per usual, the New England Patriots are in position to secure home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs. That could change, however, if the Patriots slip up Sunday afternoon. New England’s lone loss came to the Baltimore Ravens who are only one game back from the Patriots. If the two AFC juggernauts end the season with the same record, the AFC playoffs will set up to go through Baltimore, not Foxborough. Put simply, there’s plenty at stake for both teams Sunday afternoon.
Dak enters MVP conversation
Though the Patriots have the advantage when it comes to coaching, some are beginning to question if that’s the case when it comes to quarterback play. Brady, at 42 years old, is beginning to look like the aging QB we’ve been expecting to see for the last five years. Dak, on the other hand, is beginning to look like an MVP candidate worthy of $100 million contract.
Prescott is second in the league in touchdown passes (21) and leads the NFL in passing yards, part of the reason you can find Prescott with +1200 “futures odds to win NFL MVP.
While Sunday could be Prescott’s MVP moment, considering past MVP trends, I don’t think it’s time to bet Prescott yet.

NFL Week 12 Betting Picks: Cowboys at Patriots
Though New England has only lost one game, somehow it feels like more. Brady was clearly disgruntled after the Patriots struggled to score 17 points against a vulnerable Philadelphia defense. What makes this game tough to pick is lack of clarity regarding the Cowboys. The Cowboys offense, led by Prescott, has looked prolific at times and downright pathetic. None of the Cowboys’ wins have come against a team with a winning record; similarly, the Patriots have only beaten one team with a winning record — the Buffalo Bills.
Prescott struggled in Week 5 when the Packers pass rush was too much for a wounded offensive line. Sunday, the Cowboys will face a much better defense than anything they’ve seen yet. With that said, I like the Cowboys keep this game within 6 points Sunday afternoon. If Prescott plays like he has been, there’s no reason Dallas shouldn’t be able to keep up with the Patriots who had difficulty scoring against the Eagles last week. If you read about NFL Week 12 Look-ahead lines, hopefully you grabbed the Cowboys +7 last week.
