NFL Week 2 Betting Picks: Philadelphia at Atlanta

Article Image

This week’s Sunday Night Football Showdown opened as a pick’em and nodded ever so slightly towards the Eagles across online sportsbooks by the time of this writing. The Falcons look to bounce back at home after a disappointing loss on the road to the Minnesota Vikings. Philadelphia looks to keep rolling after a come-from-behind victory against the Redskins in Week 1. With a 52.5-point implied game total across online sports betting sites, this game has all the makings of an exciting prime time affair.

NFL Betting Picks Week 2 — Philadelphia Eagles -2 at Atlanta Falcons, O/U 52.5

The slight favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook, Philadelphia travels to Atlanta after a very tenuous Week 1 contest against their divisional rival Redskins. Survivor pool contestants across the country were sweating as the Eagles finished the first half down 20-7. A 25-point second-half — featuring a 53-yard touchdown from DeSean Jackson — fueled the Eagles and allayed concerns for those looking to move on in their survivor pools. Carson Wentz went 28 for 39 passing for 313 yards and three touchdowns.

The home-underdog Atlanta Falcons did not find the same fortunes against the Vikings in Minnesota in Week 1. The Vikings controlled the game through three quarters — taking a 28-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Two fourth-quarter touchdowns to Calvin Ridley and Julio Jones salvaged what would have been a poor day from Matt Ryan. Ryan finished 33 for 46 for 304 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Falcons managed just 73 rushing yards as they played from behind for a high percentage of the game.

Bettors are on the side of the road team as evidenced by the small line movement towards Philadelphia. The Eagles are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games whilst going 4-1 ATS in their last five against NFC opponents. Conversely, a home-field advantage appears nonexistent for the Falcons against the spread. Atlanta is 2-5 ATS at home over their last seven games. The Eagles bring a clear edge on the defensive side of the ball with an offense to match. Atlanta will need to play a better defensive game to keep this one close.

NFL Week 2 Betting Pick: Whatever action is on this game seems to side with the Eagles and I will jump aboard. The Eagles offense is rife with weapons including a deep threat in DeSean Jackson that will keep the Atlanta defense honest. The Eagles showed some leaks against the Washington Redskins’ offense and will likely give up some to the efficient Falcon offense. That said, the Philadelphia defense should make enough plays to win a close one. Give me the Philadelphia Eagles to cover. Philadelphia Eagles -2. (use our FanDuel promo code to get these odds.)

NFL Week 2 Betting Picks — Player Props

Zach Ertz — Over 56.5 Receiving Yards -112: The Vikings barely attempted any passes against the Falcons — instead, leaning on a run-heavy attack to pound the Falcons into submission. While the Eagles bring plenty of rushing options to Atlanta, make no mistake, the birds want to fly. Philadelphia is stock-piled with weapons but the connection between Carson Wentz and Zach Ertz is very strong. Ertz was targeted seven times last week. Ertz averaged 9.75 targets per game in 2018 with 72.7 receiving yards per game. Even if the ball is spread around, Ertz will receive his typical workload. Give me the over.
